UnWrest Focus REWIND: Vader vs. Cactus Jack (WCW Halloween Havoc, 10/24/1993)

Spin the Wheel, Make The Deal. That was the gimmick going into this iconic match between two of the hardest hitting wrestlers of all time. It was the storyline months in development: Cactus Jack had just returned after Vader mauled him with a battery of injuries and a concussion to get his revenge. Vader, a merciless monster who delivers pain and punishment to all his vicitms, faced Cactus Jack, the one guy who would take Vader's assault and like the orphan Annie would ask for more. And if Vader wanted to brawl, no one could take Vader's offense and return it in spades quite like Cactus Jack. So, WCW billed the match as "Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal." The idea being that the actual stipulation of the match would be determined on Halloween Havoc by the spin of a big wheel. (If only wrestling could take the "Big Wheel" from The Price is Right. And of course, we'd have to make sure it goes all the way around.) So, the wheel landed that night on a Texas D...

UnWrest Focus REWIND: Sabu vs. Sandman (ECW in Tokyo, Japan; 12/22/1997)

You should be careful what you ask for. Because sometimes the reality doesn't live up to the expectations you have set. Case in point: The Sandman and Sabu are two extreme wrestling legends. They are both known for their ability to take pain and work through it regardless of the situation. So, obviously, you would think that once the bell rang, these two legends would create instant classics in hardcore wrestling. Well... As we're about to find out, these two didn't exactly mesh well every night. So, let's go to another ECW match taking place this time in Tokyo, Japan in the legendary Korakuen Hall between two of ECW's biggest legends. Let's do this. ECW Hardcore TV December 30, 1997 (Match Took Place on 12/22/1997) Tokyo, Japan- Korakuen Hall Sabu (w/Bill Alfonso) vs. The Sandman (w/ a Singapore Cane, cigarettes and beer) And here comes The Sandman through the famous Korakuen Hall with his trademark entrance, complete with cigarette smoking, beer drink...

UnWrest Focus: The Hardys' WrestleMania 33 Weekend Part 3: Raw Tag Team Championship Ladder Match (WrestleMania 33)

The Hardys have already had one hell of a weekend up to this point. They wrestled against Fenix and Pentagon Jr. in a short but solid match at WrestleCon on Friday. The next night, they faced The Young Bucks in an awesome Ladder Match on Ring of Honor's Supercard of Honor XI. And now, how do you cap off this weekend? How about making a surprise return in front of 70,000 people and millions watching at home? Yeah. That sounds about right. This is the moment that caps off a months-long "EXPEDIIITION of Gold" that the Hardys had proclaimed months ago... on Impact Wrestling. The Hardys have wrestled in multiple companies around the wrestling world within a short time period. But there was only one thing left to do. And ironically, it was the backstage issues with Impact Wrestling that led to their ability to leave the company and come back to WWE to finish what they started on Impact's television program. Anyways, enough with the historical context. Let's get to i...

UnWrest Focus: The Hardys' WrestleMania 33 Weekend Part 2: Hardys vs. Young Bucks- Ladder Match (Supercard of Honor XI)

As the Hardys weekend continued, they faced one of the hottest acts in wrestling: The Young Bucks. And let's be real here: There's a TON of similarities between the Hardys and the Jacksons. Both are legit brothers with massive athletic ability matched only by their creative genius. So, it was appropriate that in their "EXPEDIIIITION OF GOLD" that the Hardys would travel to the "Honorable Ring" to procure tag team gold from "The Bucks of Youth." And that is what they did on their first night at ROH. Fast forward to Apri1 1, 2017. The Hardys are still the tag team champions of ROH, and they have to face the Young Bucks again. This time, it's in a match that The Hardys made famous and that the Young Bucks were no rookies in themselves: a ladder match. Without further ado, let's do this! UnWrest Focus: The Hardys' WrestleMania 33 Weekend Part 1: The Hardys vs. Pentagon Jr. and Fenix (WrestleCon 2017)

One of the greatest feats in modern wrestling took place the weekend of WrestleMania 33. However, you'd be mistaken if you thought The Hardys' return at WrestleMania 33 was the lone part of the story. Matt and Jeff Hardy did not just work one match that weekend. They worked 3 matches in 3 nights. Their second match was an excellent Ladder Match between them and The Young Bucks at the ROH Supercard of Honor show that weekend. HOWEVER, the night before that, The Hardys found themselves in another dream scenario for wrestling fans when they faced the Lucha Brothers (Fenix and Pentagon Jr.). This series of UnWrest Focus will look back on the "WONDERFUL" weekend for The Broken Hardys from working for an independent show to the second biggest promotion in America to returning home to the biggest promotion in the world on its biggest night. It's a story of two brothers doing something that has never been done and will probably never be done again. So, how would ...

UnWrest (Week of October 19, 2018): Goodbye Impact; Hello MLW and NXT UK + WWE, NXT, and ROH Reviews

What's up everyone? First of all, I've decided to stop covering Impact Wrestling as of this week. I've lost a little bit of interest in the show, and I'm wanting to give a couple other wrestling shows some attention. So, thanks to YouTube, I'll be covering Episode 26 of MLW. Also, I will be watching the first episode of NXT UK on the WWE Network. So, out with the undead realms and Grado and in with Pete Dunne and TONY SCHIAVONE ON COMMENTARY! Let's Do This! Raw Thoughts - The opening segment of Raw was your typical promo to set up the rest of the show, but I wasn't feeling it. It just felt so by-the-numbers. I'm getting sick of seeing these six run around in circles. Something needs to actually change in this. - Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins had a fun match all things considered. There was too much outside interference for my taste, but it also helped save the eventual one-on-one match between Seth and Drew on a big stage. So, I can't ...

UnWrest Focus REWIND: Tommy Dreamer vs. Raven (Tokyo, Japan; ECW, 8/11/96)

Welcome to a special edition of UnWrest Focus REWIND. For this edition, we go back to 1996 as ECW World Champion Raven battles Tommy Dreamer. It is one of the greatest rivalries in wrestling history (and one I will likely do greater study on later). But this is a unique match here as ECW does not take place in Philly... or in the US. For this edition of the classic feud, it's taking place in TOKYO, JAPAN in the famous Korakuen Hall (site of a lot of New Japan Pro Wrestling events over the years). It's rare enough to see ECW outside of the country, but to see ECW in Japan... I only have three words for this: Let's Do This!!! ECW August 11, 1996 Tokyo, Japan ECW World Heavyweight Championship Raven (c) vs. Tommy Dreamer (w/ Beulah) This is so cool to see ECW in this venue. I'm anxious to see if there are any stylistic differences. The bell rings. The crowd is quieter than your typical ECW crowd. Tommy spits on Raven after a break. Raven and Dreamer brawl ...
