UnWrest Focus: The Hardys' WrestleMania 33 Weekend Part 1: The Hardys vs. Pentagon Jr. and Fenix (WrestleCon 2017)

One of the greatest feats in modern wrestling took place the weekend of WrestleMania 33. However, you'd be mistaken if you thought The Hardys' return at WrestleMania 33 was the lone part of the story. Matt and Jeff Hardy did not just work one match that weekend. They worked 3 matches in 3 nights. Their second match was an excellent Ladder Match between them and The Young Bucks at the ROH Supercard of Honor show that weekend. HOWEVER, the night before that, The Hardys found themselves in another dream scenario for wrestling fans when they faced the Lucha Brothers (Fenix and Pentagon Jr.).

This series of UnWrest Focus will look back on the "WONDERFUL" weekend for The Broken Hardys from working for an independent show to the second biggest promotion in America to returning home to the biggest promotion in the world on its biggest night. It's a story of two brothers doing something that has never been done and will probably never be done again.

So, how would this first night of the Hardys historic weekend go? Let's find out.

WrestleCon 2017
The Broken Hardys vs. Fenix and Pentagon Jr.

The crowd chants "Cero Miedo" and "DELETE DELETE DELETE" for both teams as they come to the ring.
The two teams meet in the middle of the ring. Now, the dueling chants happen. Both teams egg on the crowd to chant their catchphrases even now.

The bell rings. CERO MIEDO! to the grill of the Broken one. DELETE! They trade this back and forth. Fenix comes in to do the Cero Miedo! Jeff now comes in for the Delete! chant.  And now... It's on!
Fenix and Pentagon work their kicks in for maximum effect on the Hardys. Then, the Lucha Brothers do a wheelbarrow reverse splash... I don't know what you call it. It just looked awesome. Jeff comes in to save Matt and gets dissected with kicks by the Luchas. A WHAT'S UP (?!) DOUBLE STOMP TO THE GROIN OF JEFF! Damn. Matt Hardy fights back. Side Effect by Matt for a 2. The Hardys now get their offense in on The Luchas. All four men are down, and the crowd applauds. Deservedly so. Good opening sequence here.
Matt gets dragged to the outside. But Pentagon jumps over the top onto his own brother when Matt gets out of the way. Jeff follows up with a jump off the apron onto both Lucha Bros. The Hardys now hit moves on both Lucha Bros in opposite corners. Double Twist of Fate. Both Lucha Bros. kick out. The Luchas come back and hit a Razor's Edge/Double LegDrop on the Hardys.
Twist of Fate by Matt. But Fenix breaks up the Swanton Attempt. However, Fenix is sent off the corner onto Pentagon. Swanton Bomb by Jeff Hardy. 1-2-3?!

Winners: The Hardys
Match Grade: C. That was good while it lasted, but this has to be a bit of a disappointment. Pentagon and Fenix didn't get to do a lot of their trademark moves here, and The Hardys just ran through them towards the end. It makes me wonder if the show ran long or something. It also could be something called "The Hardys have 3 matches in one weekend, including 2 Ladder matches!"

Matt Hardy gets on the mic. He calls someone an obsolete mule. He has something to say. He calls the fans in attendance the ones that keep wrestling alive. They aren't the ones that are puppets of "MICKMahhhon." He puts over the Lucha Bros. as one of the greatest tag teams in the universe. Both teams shake hands. Matt and Jeff have been doing this for almost a quarter century. He doesn't know how much time they have left. He puts over the other tag teams in wrestling today (The Bucks of Youth, The Briscoes). Jeff Hardy gives us a "Obsolete" song chant. Fenix gets on the mic, thanks the fans, and thanks the Hardys.
_ _ _ _ _

So, this is it for the first post of our look at the WrestleMania 33 weekend of The Hardys. Next up... The Hardys vs. THE BUCKS OF YOUTH with Ladders!

Until then, take care of yourselves. Spread some awesomeness.

UnWrest Focus REWIND: Vader vs. Cactus Jack (WCW Halloween Havoc, 10/24/1993)

Spin the Wheel, Make The Deal. That was the gimmick going into this iconic match between two of the hardest hitting wrestlers of all time. It was the storyline months in development: Cactus Jack had just returned after Vader mauled him with a battery of injuries and a concussion to get his revenge. Vader, a merciless monster who delivers pain and punishment to all his vicitms, faced Cactus Jack, the one guy who would take Vader's assault and like the orphan Annie would ask for more. And if Vader wanted to brawl, no one could take Vader's offense and return it in spades quite like Cactus Jack. So, WCW billed the match as "Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal." The idea being that the actual stipulation of the match would be determined on Halloween Havoc by the spin of a big wheel. (If only wrestling could take the "Big Wheel" from The Price is Right. And of course, we'd have to make sure it goes all the way around.) So, the wheel landed that night on a Texas D

WCW Spring Stampede 1994 Review- WCW At Its Best + Flair/Steamboat In Another Classic

It's WCW in early 1994. We're now working up the hype for the eventual debut of Hulk Hogan to the company. This seems like the final last gasp of what WCW was prior to Hogan's debut with the company. Tonight, we are getting WCW World Champion Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat 5 years after their classic feud (covered on UnWrest Focus earlier). We are also getting International World Champion Ravishing Rick Rude vs. Sting. We also have Steve Austin defending his U.S. Championship against The Great Muta! And Cactus Jack and Maxx Payne go to war with The Nasty Boys in a Chicago Street Fight. Here we go! Mean Gene Okerlund welcomes us to the show as fireworks go off. We're in the Rosemont Horizon in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. Aaron Neville sings the National Anthem holding on to as many harmonies and vowels as he can. Tony Schiavone and Bobby Heenan put over the main event. 1) Johnny B. Badd vs. Diamond Dallas Page (w/ Diamond Doll) Badd comes out dressed like
