UnWrest ROH and MLW TV Reviews (11/9/18)

Trying to play catchup with some reviews. Here are some quick reviews for ROH and MLW from Friday, November 9, 2018 ROH Thoughts - I really enjoyed the opening match between Jeff Cobb and Shane Taylor. Both of these guys are equal size, and they were both able to gel well in the match. This may be the best performance I've seen Shane Taylor have in a wrestling match. I get what Ian and Colt were telling us during the Global Wars tour about this being a great match. They were right. I still think Evil vs. Cobb is Cobb's best match to date, but this is clearly the second best compared to all the others. Hats off to both men. (I still can't believe Shane Taylor did a Canadian Destroyer. You read that right!) After the match, Hangman Page came out to face off with Cobb. They fight off security to continue to face off.  Something tells me this is our match at Final Battle, which is probably Page's last match with ROH. - We get a bunch of promos from Lethal, The Boun...

NXT TakeOver: WarGames (2018) Preview and Predictions

God, I love WarGames. It's one of my favorite gimmick matches in wrestling history when done right. You have two rings, two teams (or more), in one elongated cage trying to survive. I've gone on record in saying that the NXT version of WarGames was my favorite of all of them, followed closely by Sting's Squadron vs. The Dangerous Alliance from 1992. This year could be another classic in the making. But there are three other great matches on this card that could help produce the greatest NXT TakeOver of all time. So without further ado, here are my predictions and thoughts on each match. 1) NXT Championship Tommaso Ciampa (c) vs. Velveteen Dream This could be a show stealer. I know that sounds weird given that it's a championship match. But given the other three matches on this card, this is the one that sneaks up and takes the attention of the rest of the show. I'm predicting that Ciampa, by hook or crook, retains the championship, but the very young Velvete...

UnWrest NXT 11/14/18- The Final Push for WarGames

Sorry for getting this out late. I had a bit of "blogger's block." (Is that a thing?) Anyways... LET'S DO THIS!   NXT 11/14/18 1) Bianca Belair vs. Mia Yim- I'll be honest: I didn't see much of Mia Yim in this match to make me get whatever the hype is about here. Meanwhile, Bianca Belair continues to be impressive with her performance. I like the toughness, the rough house attacks, and the power that she shows. Bianca Belair is still un-de-fea-ted. Good match to start the show, but I was hoping to see more from Yim to be honest. -A video shows to hype up Gargano vs. Black. I know I might be in the minority, but I love the change in Gargano. The "pure" good guy character wasn't doing it for me, and I like that Gargano is showing a dark side. It gives his character so much more range. Plus ANYTHING to keep Gargano away from Ciampa is a good thing. If they never wrestled again on NXT, it would be too soon. I know everyone gushed a...

Survivor Series 2018 Predictions: Legit Chaos in Promotion

Where do I begin? So many changes have happened to this show in the past 3 days that I'm glad I didn't jumpstart this very post before now. And I'm still wondering if THIS is too early. Instead of a long intro on what's changed, I'll just try to do the best I can while discussing each match. Here's the card, according to Wikipedia: So, let's start from the top of that card. 1) Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair So much to go over for this. First, I feel robbed that Becky Lynch vs. Ronda Rousey will not be happening. Fate intervened in the way of an accidental  Nia Jax punch during the big brawl Monday Night (see my review here for more on that incredible moment for Becky Lynch). But now, we are getting this instead: WrestleMania 35's rumored main event coming earlier than anyone thought. The Baddest Woman on the Planet versus (arguably) the Best Women's Wrestler on the Planet. This will be a fun impromptu match, and I have no doubt Charlott...

UnWrest- Raw and SmackDown Live Reviews- 11/12-13/18- The Man Comes Around

The final push for Survivor Series took a lot of twists and turns this week. And the card took a lot of changes by the end of SmackDown Live to the point where many matches were affected for better and for worse. Plus, a legendary moment ended Raw while another huge development ended SmackDown Live. Let's Do This: Raw 11/12/18 - Raw opened with a tag team battle royal to determ.... why even bother finishing that sentence? Braun Strowman destroyed everyone and demanded Baron Corbin. Stephanie McMahon came out and gave concessions to Braun (including a Universal Championship match and Baron Corbin in any kind of match Braun wants with no legal consequences) if he helps Team Raw win over Team SmackDown. Braun agrees. Stephanie says she is going to be a great motivator. Enter Ronda Rousey who tells Stephanie that she doesn't need motivation or a pep talk for her match against Becky Lynch Sunday. Corbin came out and put his hand on the shoulder of Ronda Rousey in an awkwa...

The Unscientific Method of How I Grade Wrestling Matches

I just wanted to share a quick post explaining why I grade certain matches at higher grades. To kind of understand my mindset, here are the few things I take into consideration before I render a grade. 1) Company - I do not evaluate WWE matches the same way that I evaluate matches from ROH or New Japan. I do not consider it to be fair to compare companies between each other in terms of what makes a great match. Any wrestler who goes to WWE will tell you that WWE has a much different style than ROH and New Japan. The wrestling is different because each of their objectives are different. WWE is a company that aims to entertain through micromanaging (for better or for worse) the matches and storylines we see on TV in order to achieve what Vince McMahon wants. ROH and NJPW are a bit more relaxed in what they have their wrestlers do. Also, ROH and NJPW tend to be based more on the athleticism of the athletes which then gets peppered with storylines whereas WWE tends to be the exact opposi...
