UnWrest (Week of July 27, 2018)- TV Reviews, Recommendations, and Why Nakamura Should Go Back to New Japan in 2019

What's up everyone? Here are my thoughts on the week's TV shows, the Rewind match of the week, and a Podcast Recommendation of the Week. Plus, I'm going to give my opinion on why Shinsuke Nakamura should go back to New Japan in 2019. And warning: I'm going to go "there" in regards to Nakamura's future in WWE. Without further ado, HERE WE GO!!!! WWE Thoughts - WWE just had to pat themselves on the back this week over and over again after announcing the first-ever All-Women PPV. Making the announcement was one thing (a really cool thing). It was another to pound into the ground so many times and self-congratulate themselves as aggressively as they did over their TV shows this week. They effectively destroyed the goodwill that the announcement had. Here's an idea: Make the announcement, let it soak in while you promote SummerSlam, and then start ramping up the promotion after your biggest event of the summer. Don't treat us like morons by making e...

G1 Climax 28- A Block- Night 9- An Average Night in a GOOD Way

We're about half way through the G1 Climax now with several big matches still on the horizon. Here's a reminder of where we are at at the moment for A Block. A Block Standings After Night 7 Jay White (6 points) EVIL (6 Points) Hiroshi Tanahashi (6 Points) Michael Elgin (4 points) Togi Makabe (4 points) Minoru Suzuki (4 points) Kazuchika Okada (4 points) Hangman Page (2 points) Bad Luck Fale (2 points) YOSHI-HASHI (2 points) There's one match I'm not looking forward to today: YOSHI-HASHI vs. Okada. But Page vs. EVIL, Fale vs. White, and Suzuki vs. Elgin have me intrigued. Without further ado, HERE WE GO... Undercard Notes - We're getting Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Tama Tonga tomorrow. More Tongan Shenanigans are likely to continue, but Sabre Jr. just tapped out Ishii. So, there's a chance Sabre Jr. could get the win. Today, we get the tag match preview with Sabre and Taka facing the G.O.D. Again, Taka Michinoku should always be Sabre's spokesperson. The pair ...

Website Update (July 26, 2018)

What's up everyone? As you can tell, I'm back from vacation and ready to get things going again on the blog. I have a few quick updates on what's happening with the blog. 1) I have just finished getting caught up on all the G1 Climax action up to July 26th. So, starting with today's show (which is already posted on the blog), I'll be putting the day's G1 action on the website. 2) The main Unwrest blog will return tomorrow night (Friday). I haven't had a chance to watch NXT or ROH with all the G1 coverage I needed to get caught up on. So, after the marathon coverage I did over the last two days to get that done, I'm giving myself more time to get the main blog ready. So, check it out tomorrow night. I should have it done by 9-10pm at the latest. 3) I will also be catching up on Extreme Rules from a couple weeks ago. I've heard some "interesting" things about this show as far as crowd participation is concerned. So, I look forward to wa...

G1 Climax 28 - B Block- Night 8- SANADA and Ibushi Tear The House Down, B Block Delivers Overall

Now that I'm current on the G1 Climax, I'm looking forward to just watching the day's G1 Climax matches. This has been a really good tournament so far that could become great in the next few days. Several great matches have already taken place. Today, it's Omega vs. Robinson, Tonga vs. Naito, SANADA vs. Ibushi, Goto vs. Yano, and Sabre Jr. vs. Ishii. This could be another awesome B Block show. As I mentioned last night, I'm going to be light in my coverage of the Undercard matches going forward, but I will continue to write any thoughts I have while watching the undercard tag matches. So, without further ado, and for the first time on the same day of one of these G1 shows.... HERE WE GO!!!!! Undercard Notes - Elgin and Suzuki are on opposite sides of a tag team match to set up their match tomorrow in A Block. This could be another sleeper match as it will be power and speed vs. diabolical and tough. - Oh my God! 1, I just realized EVIL and Hangman Page will...

G1 Climax 28- A Block- Night 7- An Average Night In The Worst Way

The conclusion of the shows I missed while on vacation. I'm writing this after having watched 4 other shows prior to this. So, I might be a little jaded on my expectations. I apologize in advance. But the G1 has been amazing this year. I'm looking forward to Tanahashi vs. Page and Suzuki vs. White tonight. Again, I'm covering only the main block matches. If anything happens in the undercard, I'll make a comment about it below. (Editor's Note: I'm thinking of doing the same thing going forward as well. After having done this all day, I think there's more advantage to only providing thoughts on the random undercard matches which mean nothing than trying to do meaningful commentary on those throwaway matches.) HERE WE GO!!! A Block Matches- Night 7 1) YOSHI-HASHI vs. Michael Elgin- Elgin knocks down HASHI easily with a shoulder block. HASHI goes for a flying crossbody off the apron but gets blocked. HASHI connects a second later with a suplex on Elgin on...

G1 Climax 28- B Block- Night 6 (Ishii vs. Goto, Sabre Jr. vs. SANADA, Naito vs. Juice)

Continuing the long day of getting caught up on G1 Climax 28, I am looking forward to this show. The Bullet Club Civil War continues with Omega vs. Tonga. Goto vs. Ishii may strike each other into bits. And I already know what to expect with Yano vs. Ibushi as I caught that result earlier. So, I want to see just how this happens. (No spoilers until you read my review below. Lol.) Again, if anything significant happens during the undercard, I'll write it below. HERE WE GO (again)!!!! Undercard Thoughts -Chris Charlton is going to be involved in the show tonight on commentary. LION'S PRIDE is an amazing book and is on Kindle. I highly recommend it to any wrestling fan. I have his latest book "Eggshells" and intend to read it in the near future. - White refused to save YOH again in their match against Suzuki-Gun. White vs. Suzuki should be a very fun match to watch. A Young Boy gets in the way of Suzuki getting to White, and Suzuki RAMS that poor dude directly in...

G1 Climax 28- A Block- Night 5

Continuing to work through the shows I missed on vacation as I begin reviewing the 5th Night of G1 Climax 28 action. This show should be another interesting one with Okada facing Hangman Page as well as Hiroshi Tanahashi facing Bad Luck Fale, among other A Block matches. Again, there will probably be no undercard reviews as I'm working hard to get caught up on the shows. If anything significant happens in the undercard, I'll write my thoughts. Without further delays, HERE WE GO!!!! Undercard - I took a couple minutes to watch Kenny Omega and Chase Owens vs. Guerrillas of Destiny. Not surprised to see Chase Owens take the loss again. But again, they are pushing this new faction of the Bullet Club hard. Tonga nailed Omega twice with a Gun Stun: once during the match, another about 2 minutes after the match ended out of nowhere. I'm anxious to see how this match turns out in the B Block. - I didn't get to read much in spoilers while I was gone, but I did hear grea...
