MLW (1/25/19)- #ParkSami + Jim Cornette- inspired Rants

On this episode of MLW Fusion, we get a battle of hardcore legends as LA PARK takes on Sami Callihan in a Falls Count Anywhere Match.

MLW Fusion (Episode 41)

- We get some highlights of what Sami Callihan has done for Salina's organization over the last few months and the fallout between the two. Now, LA PARK is coming to get Sami fired or kill him.

- Our first match is Kotto Brazil taking on Vandal Ortagun. Brazil is wearing an eye patch to sell the supposed "Nightclub Attack" from Ricky Martinez a month or so ago. Vandal jumps him as the bell rings and sends him to the floor. Brazil gets the advantage and hits a few dives onto Ortagun on the floor. Big boot to the face by Brazil, but Ortagun uses the eyepatch to injure Brazil and get the advantage. Ortagun goes after the eye of Brazil some more and presses the attack with more offensive maneuvers. Brazil hits a version of Eat De-Feet followed by several German suplexes. Brazil gets a third German suplex eventually after some resistance and gets a 2 count on the pin attempt. A Hammerlock Lungblower by Ortagun gets a 2 count. (I can't say I've ever seen that one.) Code Red by Brazil gets a 2 count. Cutter by Brazil. DESTINOOOOOOO! (Sorry, wrong wrestler.) 3 count.

(Good opening match here. Ortagun looked decent here, and Brazil did a good job selling the eye throughout the match.)

Martinez jumps Brazil from behind. He throws Brazil to the ground, rips off his eye patch, and puts it on.

- Tommy Dreamer cuts an audio promo talking about the fight with Pillman and a partner of his choosing coming up at SuperFight.

- Next is the SUPER-HEAVYWEIGHT showdown between Barrington Hughes and Ace Romero. Over 800lbs of humanity will be in the ring. The bell rings. They collide. No one moves. It's like watching two men in Sumo Wrestler outfits going at it. A running dropkick by Ace! "Hold on there, fat boys!"- Col. Parker coming to the ring. Parker makes a couple fat jokes at the Super Heavyweights expense. The Dirty Blondes interfere. Now, this is a tag team match. (This announcement came WAY too quickly after the Blondes interfere. Watch on the video at 19:45ish when the interference happens. Poorly executed. You might as well scream "It's fake remember?" and get it over with. Why do I sound like Jim Cornette in my head when I said that? And why do I want Dairy Queen all of a sudden?)
The Blondes gets steamrolled by Hughes with a Double Clothesline. Both get double splashed by the Super Heavyweights as well. Colliding Powerslams by The Super Heavyweights end this quickly. Parker is livid on the floor. The Super Heavyweights shake hands after the match.

(I get what they were going for here, but that was just poorly timed and thus poorly executed.)

- It is announced that Next Friday (2/1), Brian Pillman Jr. will face Tommy Dreamer in an Empty Arena Match (on the 20th Anniversary of the infamous Rock vs. Mankind Empty Arena Match). The next night will see The Hart Foundation challenge The Lucha Bros. for the MLW Tag Team Championships and Tom Lawlor vs. Low Ki for the MLW World Championship live on MLW Fusion.

- Sami Callihan cuts a promo about injuring people. He promises to send LA PARK packing in a body bag from MLW.

- Low-Ki cuts another promo on Tom Lawlor promising to take the fight to Lawlor hardcore.

- The main event is the Falls Count Anywhere Match between LA PARK and Sami Callihan. A lot of stalling between the two men prior to the match starting. The bell rings. The heavy hits start with both throwing chops and kicks at each other. Sami opens up his jacket and allows LA PARK to chop him. The imprint of Park's hand is on his chest! Park does the classic strut. They go to the outside with Park using the chair against Callihan. He dives through the ropes onto a seated Callihan on the floor. Park dives again only to take a trash can to the face from Callihan. Callihan continues to press the attack with trash cans and LA PARK's own belt. Callihan telegraphs a move one too many times and gets thrown over a guard rail and smacked in the head with a trash can for his trouble.
LA PARK sets up a guard rail and a trash can against the ring and suplexes Callihan onto the trash can. LA PARK is throwing the fan's seats INTO THE RING!!! They are fighting now into the lobby!!! Park continues to smack around Callihan and covers him for 2. They are now outside the building and fighting into the entrance area. Callihan is walking away as PARK gives chase. They fight back into the main area and ringside. (This is some classic ECW stuff here.) Even the poor referee gets injured by Callihan being rolled into his legs. Callihan gets powerslammed! 1-2-THE REF GRABS HIS LEG!  PARK hits the ref. LOW BLOW BY CALLIHAN! PARK KICKS OUT AT 2! Callihan sets up a bunch of chairs in the corner.  BUT PARK SPEARS HIM THROUGH THE BED OF CHAIRS!!!! 1-2-3! LA PARK WINS!

(That was an absolute war once it got going. I love the fact that they took this match all over the building and made it feel special. Callihan works really well in these hardcore matches, and what can anyone say about LA PARK that hasn't already been said? The man is a legend in wrestling regardless of what country you live in. Callihan vs. Park is a love letter to hardcore wrestling and those that like to take their wrestling to the extreme. )

Overall, this was a good episode of MLW. We got a lot of build towards SuperFight. I was not a fan of the Super Heavyweights segment and the questionable timing in it (which set off the Jim Cornette rant in my head). But I was a fan of the main event as Callihan and LA PARK gave us a good-old-fashioned hardcore war. I'm looking to see what MLW has up their sleeves for the big shows at the beginning of February.

Until next time, take care of yourselves. Spread some awesomeness.

UnWrest Focus REWIND: Vader vs. Cactus Jack (WCW Halloween Havoc, 10/24/1993)

Spin the Wheel, Make The Deal. That was the gimmick going into this iconic match between two of the hardest hitting wrestlers of all time. It was the storyline months in development: Cactus Jack had just returned after Vader mauled him with a battery of injuries and a concussion to get his revenge. Vader, a merciless monster who delivers pain and punishment to all his vicitms, faced Cactus Jack, the one guy who would take Vader's assault and like the orphan Annie would ask for more. And if Vader wanted to brawl, no one could take Vader's offense and return it in spades quite like Cactus Jack. So, WCW billed the match as "Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal." The idea being that the actual stipulation of the match would be determined on Halloween Havoc by the spin of a big wheel. (If only wrestling could take the "Big Wheel" from The Price is Right. And of course, we'd have to make sure it goes all the way around.) So, the wheel landed that night on a Texas D

WCW Spring Stampede 1994 Review- WCW At Its Best + Flair/Steamboat In Another Classic

It's WCW in early 1994. We're now working up the hype for the eventual debut of Hulk Hogan to the company. This seems like the final last gasp of what WCW was prior to Hogan's debut with the company. Tonight, we are getting WCW World Champion Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat 5 years after their classic feud (covered on UnWrest Focus earlier). We are also getting International World Champion Ravishing Rick Rude vs. Sting. We also have Steve Austin defending his U.S. Championship against The Great Muta! And Cactus Jack and Maxx Payne go to war with The Nasty Boys in a Chicago Street Fight. Here we go! Mean Gene Okerlund welcomes us to the show as fireworks go off. We're in the Rosemont Horizon in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. Aaron Neville sings the National Anthem holding on to as many harmonies and vowels as he can. Tony Schiavone and Bobby Heenan put over the main event. 1) Johnny B. Badd vs. Diamond Dallas Page (w/ Diamond Doll) Badd comes out dressed like
