ROH (1/25/19)- Villain Enterprises + Juice Is Staying

On this edition of ROH TV, we are scheduled to see the in-ring debut of Villain Enterprises (Marty Scurll, Brody King, and PCO) as they are advertised to take on The Kingdom in a ROH 6-Man Tag Team Championship Match.

ROH Thoughts

- NWA World Champion Nick Aldis joins the commentary team. He even has his own microphone.

- Our opening match is PJ Black (the former Justin Gabriel in WWE) taking on IWGP U.S. Champion JUICE ROBINSON!!!! Juice is wearing the "Old School Macho Man" attire. Juice offers a hand. He gets a chop instead to start the match. They exchange chops back and forth to start the match. Back and forth action to start things off. Black double stomps the back of Juice. Juice does the jabs, but he doesn't get the Left Hand of God in. He does however hit a dive to Black on the floor. Both are back in the ring as Black hits a beautiful back kick to Juice as we go to commercial.
We return to see Black hit a double stomp off the corner to a standing Juice. He continues the attack in the ring and on the floor on Juice. (Black is such a better wrestler than I remember him being in WWE. The attitude and the technique he's showing are much better than they were during his stint in that company.) Black hits an elbow and a fist off two opposite corners onto Juice for a 2 count. Juice catches him diving off a third time, and he hits a belly to belly. Juice starts getting his offense in. Spinebuster by Juice. Toss-Up Gutbuster to PJ only gets a 2. Pulp Friction avoided. Hurricanrana off the corner by PJ followed by a Springboard Moonsault only get a 2. Black and Juice start jabbing back and forth. Juice gets THE LEFT HAND FROM GOD! CANNONBALL IN THE CORNER! Juice goes up the corner. PJ throws the referee into the corner to send Juice down. DQ called. Juice wins.

After the match, PJ BLACK DECKS THE REF! He goes to the announce position as Aldis calls Black an embarrassment to the industry.

(It sounds like they are setting up Aldis vs. Black at a future ROH event for the NWA World Championship. In addition, Aldis did say on commentary that he would grant the winner of the match a future NWA World Championship match. Technically, Juice did win the match. So, it'll be interesting to see if this is a "huff and puff" situation where nothing happens, or if they are going to hold true to Juice getting an NWA Championship shot sometime in the future.)

Juice is still in the ring. He didn't travel all this way to win by DQ. He talks about having honor. Juice promises to be in ROH a lot more! Wow! In 2019, he promises new life will be breathed into ROH.

- The Kingdom cuts a promo about Villain Enterprises.

- Shane Taylor comes out to new music. They review the fact that Taylor ended Christopher Daniels' ROH career. He's facing Mike Law, aka "Lamb Led to Slaughter." (They didn't call him that. I did.) Mike tries to shake hands, but Shane just spits in his hand. The bell rings, and Shane CLOBBERS HIM WITH A RIGHT HAND! He's done. He hits his finisher, and this match is done. (Well, that was awesome.)
Shane Taylor gets on the microphone after the match. Shane discusses taking out Daniels. He didn't take any money to take out Daniels. He did it because he wanted to take him away from the fans. He's just getting started.

- Colt Cabana comes to the ring and introduces Flip Gordon. They discuss the Final Battle I Quit Match where Flip made Bully say "I Quit." Flip talks about making a bully quit after 8 months of hardship. His next mission: Cashing in the ROH World Championship shot. And here comes Kenny King. He discusses how everyone can take their supposed "earned title shots" and throw them in the garbage. He shows doctored footage of a supposed pin on Jay Lethal for the ROH World Championship that doesn't show his feet on the ropes during the 3 count. He shows it over and over again from multiple "doctored" angles. King calls Flip a "Phony, Homey." King cuts a hell of a promo about Flip's service in the military and being unworthy of being a challenger to a champion.

- The main event sees Villain Enterprises take on The Kingdom for the ROH 6-Man Tag Team Championships. The Kingdom come out and cut a promo about their opponents not deserving a shot at the 6-Man Tag Team Championships. Taven talks about his opponents not earning the shot. They've selected a team to take their place and face Villain Enterprises instead.

So, now, Villain Enterprises are facing the Shinobi Shadow Squad (Cheeseburger, Ryan Nova, and Eli Isom). The Villains attack to start the match. We return from commercial break as Villain Enterprises beats down on Isom. King just chops the hell out of Isom at one point. King does a cannonball into the back of Isom for a 2 count. Isom gets a nice German suplex on the much larger King. Tags to Cheeseburger and Scurll for the teams. Burger with a flying senton off the ropes. 2 count only. PCO is now in the ring with Burger. Burger avoids a splash and tags in Nova. He gets clotheslined by PCO. Burger tries to bring down PCO to no avail. Superkicks by Isom while Burger is on the back of PCO do nothing.

We return from another break. Villain Enterprises catches the Shadow Squad diving at them on the outside. The Shadow Squad get destroyed. Back in the ring. Brody King gets the Gonzo Bomb on Nova. PCO hits the moonsault. 1-2-3. Villain Enterprises win.

(Well, that was an ok match. A good display for the monsters that make up Villain Enterprises: PCO and Brody King. Marty seemed to be lost in the shuffle for this match. That could be considered to be a good thing as King and PCO needed a little bit of an introduction here. Still, this wasn't exactly a competitive match or anything.)

We get a promo in some dark area with Bully Ray next to a fire (using lighter fluid to keep it going). Clips of the "I Quit" Match are shown during the beginning of it. "I never said I Quit. I never said I Quit."

We get the mysterious line showing again. "A New Beginning from an old foundation. ROH Begins Anew."

Overall, this episode was about doing some "world-building" for the Ring of Honor brand.  We know more things about ROH's future going forward. Having Juice Robinson become more of a featured attraction and not just a "once every several months" performer is a big get for the company. In addition, we also know that the relationship between ROH and NWA is going to continue with the problems between Black and Aldis. Flip has a new challenge in his way by the name of Kenny King. Shane Taylor was made to look like a monster. We also learned that Villain Enterprises will have to do more to get to The Kingdom. And it seems like Bully Ray isn't done being a bully yet.

You have to hand it to Ring of Honor. They lost the hottest act on the planet, and they could have easily tucked their tail between their legs and given up. But ROH has done some solid work in order to add more talent and to build themselves back up again. The last two weeks of programming have been very promising. Here's hoping for their continued success in what is about to become (if it is not already) a very competitive wrestling market.

Until next time, take care of yourselves. Spread some awesomeness.

WWE Evolution Predictions + Thoughts on An Underpromoted All-Women PPV

Credit: WWE WWE Evolution Promotional Poster This should feel like a bigger deal. After all, this is the first time ever that an All-Women PPV is taking place under the WWE corporate umbrella. But WWE has done a great job of completely killing the show with an uninspired card, lack of promotion, lack of interest overall, and finding a million different other things to promote to undermine the event. Still, some fans (like myself) want to give the women their due and hope to enjoy this show. Here's a rundown of the card and my predictions for each match: 1) Raw Women's Championship: Ronda Rousey (c) vs. Nikki Bella If this goes longer than 5 minutes, it's definitely too long. As good as Nikki can be in the ring (at times), Rousey should just absolutely massacre her. The only ways to prolong this match in a realistic way would be 1) an injury angle or 2) Twin Magic with Brie interfering. Otherwise, this should be short and awesome. Prediction: Ronda Retains 2)...

WWE TLC 2018 Review- Tables and Ladders and Chairs, Oh My!

HERE WE GO!    Pre-Show   1) WWE Cruiserweight Championship   Buddy Murphy (champ) vs. Cedric Alexander   They started this match early. Apparently, they wanted just as many fans in the arena as there usually are in 205 Live matches for this to give it the authentic feel.   The bell rings. A lot of tie-ups and switches to start up the match to a good reaction from the crowd. A Loud 205 Chant. Alexander takes down Murphy to the floor. Really good back and forth action here with both men moving quickly. Alexander catches Murphy with a dropkick for a 2 count. BIG KNEE to the head of Alexander sends him to the floor. Murphy flies off the top rope and hits a Meteora (maybe that’s what they were going for?) for a 2 count. Murphy has the advantage for a few moments, including a power choke on the corner on Alexander. He jumps off it to eat a SUPERKICK to the chest. Crowd seems invested in the matc...

WWE Super Show-Down 2018 Review: Last Time Ever Delivers + Some Other Solid Matches

Another big show in the WWE this year will happen today as WWE comes from Melbourne, Australia in front of 70,000 people. A lot of big matches are happening here. Let's Do This! No Pre-Show today. It's straight to the show. The new WWE opening takes place, and we get a WWE video package putting over the show and the LAST TIME EVER match. It looks like the Raw Announce Team will be calling the show. We go to the arena, and they've already spent more money on fireworks than they have for WWE programming this year. 70,309 in attendance. For once, the entrance way is understated. 1) SmackDown Live Tag Team Championship The Bar vs. The New Day (c) I wonder if Vince/WWE Management is ordering people to run the aisle tonight. Both tag teams were doing that coming to the ring.  Nice back and forth action with Kingston and Cesaro, along with Woods after getting the tag. Woods and Kingston had an awesome sequence of moves to start off. The Bar a minute later catches bot...
