NXT (3/20/19)- Goldy Needs a New Home

With Tommaso Ciampa injured, the NXT Championship is in need of a new champion. The quest to find "Goldy" a new home begins tonight...

NXT Thoughts (3/20/19)

- Triple H comes out first with the NXT Championship. (Dang. He really wants to be champion again. Just kidding.) Triple H was going to come out and introduce the main event of NXT TakeOver being Johnny Gargano vs. Tommaso Ciampa. Ciampa had to relinquish the title due to injury. So, now Gargano will face the winner of a big match tonight for the vacant NXT Championship. That big match is Ricochet vs. Adam Cole vs. Aleister Black vs. Velveteen Dream vs. Matt Riddle.

(Triple H and the announcers put over Tommaso Ciampa a lot here, for good reason. Here's hoping Ciampa comes back to go back after Goldie. I hate that he is injured again after getting so much momentum going for himself.)

- Kona Reeves and The Forgotten Sons brush off the events for tonight. The Forgotten Sons wish Aleister and Ricochet the best tonight so they'll be distracted for next week's Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Finals.

- We get some pre-taped comments from the competitors putting themselves over.

- Io Shirai and Kairi Sane are excited for the matches tonight. They are also excited to face Shayna Baszler at NXT TakeOver. Bianca Belair is as well, and she tells them that they don't deserve to face Baszler. Sane put herself in this situation, and she'll go past both of them to remain (in her mind) un-de-fea-ted.

- The main event is next: Ricochet vs. Adam Cole vs. Aleister Black vs. Velveteen Dream vs. Matt Riddle. Winner faces Johnny Gargano for the vacant NXT Championship in a 2/3 Falls Match. Mass chaos here with everyone getting a moment to shine and have some offense. Aleister Black and Ricochet have a momentary standoff that Adam Cole (Bay Bay!) breaks up. Cole then spends a couple moments beating down Ricochet. Velveteen Dream interjects himself into the match and dispatches Ricochet from the ring. Dream does the same to Cole. Velveteen hits a Double Ax Handle off the top rope onto Adam Cole on the floor. Riddle catches Dream jumping off the corner with a Release Dragon Suplex. Riddle then puts Bromission on Black, but it gets broken up. Dream and Black are left in the ring. (I wonder if Aleister will say his name.) Black takes out Dream and Cole with an Asai Moonsault. He then kicks Dream down. Cole gets Aleister out of the ring.

Riddle and Cole face off in the ring. Chops are exchanged. Cole steps on Riddle's bare feet. Bromission on Cole. Dream breaks it up. A slugfest between Riddle, Dream, and Cole in the ring. Non-stop offense now involving all five men getting some shots in on one of their opponents. Dream, Cole, and Ricochet are on the corner now. Black walks over and climbs the corner, as does Matt Riddle. IT'S A SUPER TOWER OF DOOM WITH ALL FIVE MEN FALLING TO THE MAT! Ricochet was Superplexed while Black and Riddle seemed to Russian Leg Sweep Cole and Dream.
Black and Dream go at it again. Black hits a Meteora off the corner. German Suplex by Black, but Riddle sentons both men. Riddle and Cole are now going at it in the ring. Superkick by Cole. 2 count as Ricochet breaks it up. Ax Kick by Ricochet. Cole rakes the eyes. Superkick! One to the back of the head now! Last Shot avoided. Reverse Rana by Ricochet! Ricochet does his double flip dive to the floor onto Cole.
Riddle is in the ring again, as is Velveteen Dream. Counter after counter by both men. Knee strike by Riddle. Bromission on Dream. Cole pulls the referee out of the ring to avoid the submission. BLACK MASS TO RIDDLE! DREAM VALLEY DRIVER TO BLACK! Dream climbs up the top, but Ricochet hurricanranas Dream to the floor on Cole and Black. Ricochet dives off the top rope and hits a HUGE Shooting Star Press on Riddle. LAST SHOT TO RICOCHET BY COLE! 1-2-3! ADAM COLE (BAY BAY!) is going to the NXT Championship match at TakeOver!

(Another excellent match by the NXT roster here. At this point, it really shouldn't shock anyone that any combination of these five will lead to a four star-minimum match. This was a well-constructed multi-man match with everyone getting their moment to shine. Even better, I'm glad to see that NXT is going to do something with Adam Cole as it has seemed like he's been treading water in recent months. While it's a terrible situation to have been given this type of a role, Adam Cole is going to make the best of it and deliver a classic. But now the question in my mind is "Who do you go with to win the NXT Championship: Johnny Wrestling or Adam Cole Bay Bay? Both guys are more than deserving and have earned this opportunity. So, whomever wins, the fans will win as well. TakeOver is going to be a lot of fun.)

And there's really not that much to add about this show. It was a one-match show here with the NXT Championship picture dominating the majority of the show. But this was a show that proved that one match can carry a one-hour program without the need for an undercard. So, hats off to NXT for pulling that off.

Until next time, take care of yourselves. Spread some awesomeness.

UnWrest Focus REWIND: Vader vs. Cactus Jack (WCW Halloween Havoc, 10/24/1993)

Spin the Wheel, Make The Deal. That was the gimmick going into this iconic match between two of the hardest hitting wrestlers of all time. It was the storyline months in development: Cactus Jack had just returned after Vader mauled him with a battery of injuries and a concussion to get his revenge. Vader, a merciless monster who delivers pain and punishment to all his vicitms, faced Cactus Jack, the one guy who would take Vader's assault and like the orphan Annie would ask for more. And if Vader wanted to brawl, no one could take Vader's offense and return it in spades quite like Cactus Jack. So, WCW billed the match as "Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal." The idea being that the actual stipulation of the match would be determined on Halloween Havoc by the spin of a big wheel. (If only wrestling could take the "Big Wheel" from The Price is Right. And of course, we'd have to make sure it goes all the way around.) So, the wheel landed that night on a Texas D

WCW Spring Stampede 1994 Review- WCW At Its Best + Flair/Steamboat In Another Classic

It's WCW in early 1994. We're now working up the hype for the eventual debut of Hulk Hogan to the company. This seems like the final last gasp of what WCW was prior to Hogan's debut with the company. Tonight, we are getting WCW World Champion Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat 5 years after their classic feud (covered on UnWrest Focus earlier). We are also getting International World Champion Ravishing Rick Rude vs. Sting. We also have Steve Austin defending his U.S. Championship against The Great Muta! And Cactus Jack and Maxx Payne go to war with The Nasty Boys in a Chicago Street Fight. Here we go! Mean Gene Okerlund welcomes us to the show as fireworks go off. We're in the Rosemont Horizon in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. Aaron Neville sings the National Anthem holding on to as many harmonies and vowels as he can. Tony Schiavone and Bobby Heenan put over the main event. 1) Johnny B. Badd vs. Diamond Dallas Page (w/ Diamond Doll) Badd comes out dressed like
