UnWrest (MLW, 11/30/18)- Lucha Libre Dominates The Main Event

Lucha Libre will take up the main stage tonight as the team of LA PARK and Hijo de LA PARK face The Lucha Bros. for the Tag Team Championships.

MLW Fusion Episode 33 Thoughts (11/30/18)

- A creepy promo by Salina de la Renta opens the show. I'm sure she said a couple s-bombs in her promo. And her hands were covered with stuff I don't want to venture a guess on.

- Simon Gotch is out first. He puts up $10,000 for the man that can beat him. Ariel Dominguez is out to answer the challenge. I have no idea who Ariel is, but he's out there to answer the call. All 125lbs of him. Gotch makes quick work of the guy and nails a Gotch Style Piledriver (of course) for the win. After the match, he stuffs Ariel's mouth with money and delivers the Gotch Style Piledriver again.

- MJF is interviewed in the back about the attack last week. He says the ladder match is not happening in Florida, and the match is beneath him.

- Tommy Dreamer cuts a promo somewhere outside (with a barking dog somewhere in the background) about Brian Pillman Jr. He's ok with Pillman talking smack on social media. Dreamer is going to teach him respect and looks forward to hurting him.

- Stokely Hathaway is interviewed in the back. His plans are domination, being successful, taking MLW to new heights, and to manage. Whomever he manages is going to be great just like him.

- The next match is The Hart Foundation's Brian Pillman Jr. taking on Tommy Dreamer. And Sweet Baby Jesus! It never ceases to amaze me how much Pillman Jr. looks like his father. Tommy Dreamer comes out to the instrumental version of "Man in the Box." Pillman refuses to shake hands before the match. Dreamer starts brawling early on with Pillman, taking him to the outside and using someone's beer cup as a liquid and physical weapon. Pillman eventually takes control of the match. Pillman still has a little bit of work to gt better in the ring, but he's doing really good for a man that is pretty new to the business (from what I remember him saying on the Jericho podcast a few months back). Dreamer of course starts fighting back. At one point, Brian Pillman Jr. taunts the crowd. Dreamer gives him a low blow while the ref isn't looking, and he rolls up Pillman Jr. for the win.
After the match, he picks up Pillman and tries to tell him his mistake during the match. They shake hands, Dreamer raises his hand, and Pillman low blows him! Pillman nails a swinging neckbreaker! And now Pillman attacks Dreamer with his cane. Teddy Hart comes out and raises Pillman's hand. I get the story they are trying to tell here with Dreamer wanting to be the veteran teaching the young wrestler a lesson, and the young wrestler basically wanting nothing from said veteran. Makes a bit of sense in that context.

- Filthy Tom Lawlor is interviewed from "earlier this week."  Lawlor is upset with Gotch for turning on him. Gotch won't be able to celebrate the rewards of his betrayal because every bone in his body will be broken.

- MLW Fusion LIVE's card is run down by Matt Striker.

- The main event is next as LA PARK and Hijo de LA PARK (w/Salina de la Renta) face The Lucha Bros for the MLW World Tag Team Championships. Mexican Rules. Tornado Tag. And the match quickly turns into a massive brawl inside and outside the ring. LA PARK and his son look like a father and son skeleton-loving tag team. PENTAGON GETS POWERBOMBED ON A TABLE EARLY in this brawl. Los Parks (I'm going with that for their team) go on the attack on Pentagon and Fenix individually, beating down the brothers with chairs and any other weapon they have access to. Pentagon gets the good ol' wishbone on the ringpost from Los Parks. Fenix suffers the same fate moments later. The Lucha Bros. finally start fighting back and hit a double splash over the top rope on Los Parks. Now, Hijo de LA PARK suffers the same fate that Pentagon suffered earlier: a powerbomb on an unbreaking table. LA PARK's weightlifting belt is used to smack him and his son. CERO MIEDO! Great tandem offense by the Lucha Bros. now.

Los Parks fight back and hit stereo Suicide Dives to Lucha Bros. on the floor. All four men miss dives in the ring on one of their opponents. SPANISH FLY OFF THE TOP ROPE ON FENIX BY HIJO DE LA PARK! 2 count only. Some very entertaining stuff here going on between the two teams. Pentagon and LA PARK are left in the ring and start chopping each other. They now trade charging clotheslines into the corner. LA PARK, I think, just insulted Pentagon's mother. Pentagon responds by double stomping him in the corner. 2 count. Now Fenix and Hijo de LA PARK take their turn in the ring going back and forth. Fenix Driver to Hijo gets a 2 as well. A version of the Dude Buster by Hijo gets a 2 count. Pentagon brings in a chair to beat down on Hijo. Now, Pentagon and LA PARK take back the reigns of the match in the ring. LA PARK moves like a Cruiserweight at 300lbs plus (and more surprising when you consider his age). Now, Fenix and Hijo get back in the ring to continue their segment of the match. Hijo hits a moonsault to the floor on Fenix. Pentagon and LA PARK are back in the ring. LA PARK hits a headbutt on Pentagon that sends both men crumbling to the mat. Low blow by Pentagon. Package Piledriver Double Stomp by The Lucha Bros on Hijo. Fenix dives out on LA PARK to prevent him from... stopping the 3 count.

Lucha Bros. retain in an entertaining main event match. I've seen the Luchas have better matches as a team and as singles, but this was a good main event for the program. It's also good to see actual Lucha Libre where wrestlers aren't hardened to stereotypes, carrying piñatas, and wrestling in illogical matches. Not that any wrestling company is doing that at the moment. :)

Overall, MLW was another fun hour of wrestling and delivered on some solid in-ring material, especially in the main event. I say skip the first few minutes and then watch the rest of the show.

Until next time, take care of yourselves. Spread some awesomeness.

WWE Evolution Predictions + Thoughts on An Underpromoted All-Women PPV

Credit: WWE WWE Evolution Promotional Poster This should feel like a bigger deal. After all, this is the first time ever that an All-Women PPV is taking place under the WWE corporate umbrella. But WWE has done a great job of completely killing the show with an uninspired card, lack of promotion, lack of interest overall, and finding a million different other things to promote to undermine the event. Still, some fans (like myself) want to give the women their due and hope to enjoy this show. Here's a rundown of the card and my predictions for each match: 1) Raw Women's Championship: Ronda Rousey (c) vs. Nikki Bella If this goes longer than 5 minutes, it's definitely too long. As good as Nikki can be in the ring (at times), Rousey should just absolutely massacre her. The only ways to prolong this match in a realistic way would be 1) an injury angle or 2) Twin Magic with Brie interfering. Otherwise, this should be short and awesome. Prediction: Ronda Retains 2)

WWE TLC 2018 Review- Tables and Ladders and Chairs, Oh My!

HERE WE GO!    Pre-Show   1) WWE Cruiserweight Championship   Buddy Murphy (champ) vs. Cedric Alexander   They started this match early. Apparently, they wanted just as many fans in the arena as there usually are in 205 Live matches for this to give it the authentic feel.   The bell rings. A lot of tie-ups and switches to start up the match to a good reaction from the crowd. A Loud 205 Chant. Alexander takes down Murphy to the floor. Really good back and forth action here with both men moving quickly. Alexander catches Murphy with a dropkick for a 2 count. BIG KNEE to the head of Alexander sends him to the floor. Murphy flies off the top rope and hits a Meteora (maybe that’s what they were going for?) for a 2 count. Murphy has the advantage for a few moments, including a power choke on the corner on Alexander. He jumps off it to eat a SUPERKICK to the chest. Crowd seems invested in the match. That’s a good sign. UnWrest Focus REWIND: Vader vs. Cactus Jack (WCW Halloween Havoc, 10/24/1993)

Spin the Wheel, Make The Deal. That was the gimmick going into this iconic match between two of the hardest hitting wrestlers of all time. It was the storyline months in development: Cactus Jack had just returned after Vader mauled him with a battery of injuries and a concussion to get his revenge. Vader, a merciless monster who delivers pain and punishment to all his vicitms, faced Cactus Jack, the one guy who would take Vader's assault and like the orphan Annie would ask for more. And if Vader wanted to brawl, no one could take Vader's offense and return it in spades quite like Cactus Jack. So, WCW billed the match as "Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal." The idea being that the actual stipulation of the match would be determined on Halloween Havoc by the spin of a big wheel. (If only wrestling could take the "Big Wheel" from The Price is Right. And of course, we'd have to make sure it goes all the way around.) So, the wheel landed that night on a Texas D
