UnWrest (SmackDown, 12/4/18)- FICKLE!!!!! FICKLE!!!!

What happens when a Vegan environmentalist goes off the deep end and turns to the dark side? Find out here!

Let's Do This...

SmackDown Thoughts- 12/5/18

- A replay of the women's segments from last week opens the show and shows the road to Asuka's insertion into the TLC match for the SmackDown Women's Championship.

- Appropriately, Paige starts off the show with the contract signing for the match. And we see the title dangling above the ring, ending the speculation about whether this TLC match would involve any pins or submissions. That makes it easier for a champion to lose their title or for anyone to save face without being pinned.  LOUD ovation for Becky Lynch. She guarantees that she'll do anything it takes to win. Charlotte gets on the mic and puts down Becky for going down to one punch from Nia Jax. Asuka interrupts the argument and says Becky already beat Charlotte but never beat Asuka. All three argue back and forth about past victories until Becky just says she'll beat them both, signs the contract, and leaves. Charlotte and Asuka sign the contract. Then we get Mandy and Sonya who I guess are friends again this week(?). They get a bunch of WHAT? chants from the crowd as they are cutting their promo. Cue the tag team match to start the show. Holla! (OOOPS. Wrong GM.)

- The Miz asks Shane why he's hosting Miz TV with Daniel Bryan and is angry about not teaming up with him. Shane says they are not partners. Again, they argue in front of the trophy.

- Sonya and Mandy vs. Asuka and Charlotte starts afterwards. Halfway through the match with Charlotte in firm control after diving on both Mandy and Sonya, Becky Lynch comes out with her title to the roar of the crowd. After the commercial break, we come back to see Mandy in control working on Asuka in the ring. Sonya and Mandy continue working on Asuka as the crowd. Charlotte gets the tag and unloads on Sonya and Mandy. Big miscommunication as Charlotte boots Asuka off the apron. Seconds later, Asuka retaliates by hitting a sliding knee to Charlotte's face in the ring. This allows Mandy and Sonja to get the win in a nice surprise. Good opening segments here which gave Mandy and Sonja a win and added more heat to the TLC match.

- Next match is Jay Uso vs. Cesaro vs. Xavier Woods to help build up the Triple Threat Tag Team Championship match at TLC. During the commercial break, The New Day's pancake announce table was destroyed. I hopped for that one. (I'm here all week folks.) One little miscue where Cesaro was laying on the mat after  kicking out of a pin attempt by Jay Uso just waiting for Xavier to dive off the ropes with the elbow drop. Cesaro gets an amazing Swing/Fireman's Carry on Jay and Xavier at the same time. Great work by all three men on that one. Superkick by Jay Uso gets the win on Cesaro.

- Next, we see Rusev and Lana discuss the attack by Nakamura last week. He goes on a food-laden promo talking about how he wants to feast on the United States Championship. Ok.

- The Miz starts off Miz TV, but he's interrupted by a random 7 second dance party by Carmella and R-Truth. He introduces THE NEW Daniel Bryan. He cuts a great promo and shuts down on the WHAT? chants calling it 20 years out of date. Brilliant stuff here staying in character while addressing the WWE crowd. The Miz tries to take credit for the new direction of Daniel Bryan. Then he goes on a great rant about his one sin (kicking AJ downstairs) doesn't even compare to the sins people commit every day by drinking plastic water bottles and eating farmed meat. Miz wants to know if Daniel Bryan is WWE Champion because he listened to what The Miz said. Daniel Bryan goes on another rant saying that it does not matter because the OLD Daniel Bryan is dead. The Yes Movement is Dead. "FICKLE!" seems to be the new chant from Daniel Bryan towards the fans. AJ Styles comes out and throws The Miz into AJ to avoid the attack. Daniel and AJ get in the ring and The Miz gets involved in the melee. Skull Crushing Finale on AJ Styles.

I probably liked this segment more than I should have. Daniel Bryan just nailed this heel character tonight with the burns on everyone in the damn world. The Miz continued to be a smug heel with a small hint of a face somewhere in there. And AJ continues to be the hot-head who thinks irrationally.

After the commercial break, it is announced that AJ Styles will face The Miz in the main event.

- The next match is Jeff Hardy vs. Randy Orton. I feel bad for Jeff Hardy's elastic ears. Hardy takes the fight to Orton early on attacking him in the ring and around ringside. Before commercial break, Orton is left laying on the announce table. Orton and Hardy go at it back and forth as soon as we get back from break. Both men are on the floor eventually with Hardy clearing off the announce table and putting Randy Orton on the top of it. Samoa Joe stops Jeff from diving off the top of the corner with a video of Joe from a bar, a place he says Hardy is very familiar with. Orton comes from behind to nail an RKO for the victory. After the match, Samoa Joe warns the audience about excess and provides a PSA for moderation in as smug a way as possible.

Orton gets another win on Jeff Hardy while Hardy's feud with Samoa Joe takes another dark turn. Good stuff here again.

- Next week, we are getting The Usos vs. The Bar in a "Rap Battle" with The New Day as Hosts. PLUS we are getting Charlotte vs. Asuka in a WrestleMania 34 rematch. YES!

- The Miz takes on AJ Styles in the main event. Daniel Bryan proclaims that he will be on commentary. Daniel goes off on the fans and critics saying they weren't in the hypobaric chamber like he was. Daniel Bryan says that he hopes his daughter kicks every man in the groin who consumes water bottles and eats meat like Byron Saxton does. Byron Saxton is a horrible person due to the amount of meat and chicken that he eats. (That's his words, folks. Not mine.) The Miz and AJ continue to have a fun main event match, but Daniel Bryan is just killing it on commentary. The Miz deserves more credit as a pro wrestler in all aspects of the game: great talker, good seller, and a damn good wrestler in his own right. Styles catches Miz in the Calf Crusher for the tap out win. But Daniel Bryan chop blocks him after the match and goes to work on the leg of Styles, wrapping it around the ring post. Now, Styles' head gets the same treatment. Bryan rolls Styles back in the ring and nails the chop block again. Heel hook by Daniel Bryan to the leg now. Buzzsaw kick and stomps to the head of AJ Styles now by Daniel Bryan. He makes the ring announcer introduce him one more time as "Your WWE Champion. The NEW Daniel Bryan." Bryan gets on the mic: "FICKLE! You people don't cheer. FICKLE! You don't love the new Daniel Bryan! FICKLE! FICKLE! FICKLE! FICKLE! FICKLE!!!" ANOTHER CHOP BLOCK TO AJ STYLES AND A HEEL HOOK AS SMACKDOWN GOES OFF THE AIR!

Wow. A lot of things to digest here. First, AJ Styles and The Miz had a pretty good main event for a TV show all things considered. As I wrote earlier, The Miz deserves some credit along with Styles for his work. Secondly, Daniel Bryan is amazing as a heel right now going after everybody on the planet that he considers to be fickle and/or a sinful polluter. I love it. The "FICKLE!" catchphrase is going to catch on in 2019. And finally, the post-match attack on AJ Styles added a lot more heat to an already hot situation going into TLC. Hopefully, AJ will get angry enough to start the match with something other than a tie-up.

Overall, this was another easy SmackDown to watch in my opinion. The show moved at a pretty quick pace and a lot of things were advanced on the show. The only thing I was surprised didn't happen was a Rey Mysterio interference in the Orton-Hardy match. I'm guessing they didn't want to double book interference in the same match. Otherwise, I give this show a recommendation and again declare it superior to Monday Night Raw.

Until next time, take care of yourselves. Spread some awesomeness.

WWE Evolution Predictions + Thoughts on An Underpromoted All-Women PPV

Credit: WWE WWE Evolution Promotional Poster This should feel like a bigger deal. After all, this is the first time ever that an All-Women PPV is taking place under the WWE corporate umbrella. But WWE has done a great job of completely killing the show with an uninspired card, lack of promotion, lack of interest overall, and finding a million different other things to promote to undermine the event. Still, some fans (like myself) want to give the women their due and hope to enjoy this show. Here's a rundown of the card and my predictions for each match: 1) Raw Women's Championship: Ronda Rousey (c) vs. Nikki Bella If this goes longer than 5 minutes, it's definitely too long. As good as Nikki can be in the ring (at times), Rousey should just absolutely massacre her. The only ways to prolong this match in a realistic way would be 1) an injury angle or 2) Twin Magic with Brie interfering. Otherwise, this should be short and awesome. Prediction: Ronda Retains 2)...

WWE TLC 2018 Review- Tables and Ladders and Chairs, Oh My!

HERE WE GO!    Pre-Show   1) WWE Cruiserweight Championship   Buddy Murphy (champ) vs. Cedric Alexander   They started this match early. Apparently, they wanted just as many fans in the arena as there usually are in 205 Live matches for this to give it the authentic feel.   The bell rings. A lot of tie-ups and switches to start up the match to a good reaction from the crowd. A Loud 205 Chant. Alexander takes down Murphy to the floor. Really good back and forth action here with both men moving quickly. Alexander catches Murphy with a dropkick for a 2 count. BIG KNEE to the head of Alexander sends him to the floor. Murphy flies off the top rope and hits a Meteora (maybe that’s what they were going for?) for a 2 count. Murphy has the advantage for a few moments, including a power choke on the corner on Alexander. He jumps off it to eat a SUPERKICK to the chest. Crowd seems invested in the matc...

WWE Super Show-Down 2018 Review: Last Time Ever Delivers + Some Other Solid Matches

Another big show in the WWE this year will happen today as WWE comes from Melbourne, Australia in front of 70,000 people. A lot of big matches are happening here. Let's Do This! No Pre-Show today. It's straight to the show. The new WWE opening takes place, and we get a WWE video package putting over the show and the LAST TIME EVER match. It looks like the Raw Announce Team will be calling the show. We go to the arena, and they've already spent more money on fireworks than they have for WWE programming this year. 70,309 in attendance. For once, the entrance way is understated. 1) SmackDown Live Tag Team Championship The Bar vs. The New Day (c) I wonder if Vince/WWE Management is ordering people to run the aisle tonight. Both tag teams were doing that coming to the ring.  Nice back and forth action with Kingston and Cesaro, along with Woods after getting the tag. Woods and Kingston had an awesome sequence of moves to start off. The Bar a minute later catches bot...
