UnWrest (ROH, 12/7/18)- Final Battle's Final Push

As I'm finally getting to this show, Final Battle is only a couple hours away. So, this is a bit of a warm-up show for me for tonight's big show. Without further ado...

ROH THOUGHTS

A recap of Christopher Daniels-Marty Scurll's confrontation from last week.

- We get Silas Young starting the show by facing Flip Gordon. Obviously, Silas' character would like to beat up on Flip to soften him up for Bully Ray and the I Quit Match. Flip challenges him to an I QUIT match. Silas beats him down and takes the challenge. It's an I Quit Match. Silas has the advantage for a good few moments until Flip reverses the momentum. He dives through the ropes and attacks Silas around ringside. Later, Flip hits a great middle of the corner moonsault to the floor onto Silas.
We return from break to see Flip pull out a table and bring it into the ring. Silas meets him with a chair on the floor and takes back the advantage. Back in the ring, Silas drills him with a few chair shots to the ribs and plants him on another chair face first moments later. Flip eventually fights off Silas but misses a dive to the floor. And now, a Singapore Cane is brought in. But a steel chair greets Silas when he comes in as Flip just massacres him with multiple chair shots. Flip gets the Singapore Cane, and Bully comes in with a steel chain to wrap around Flip's neck. Silas drives Flip through the table placed in the corner. I'm guessing that's the end of the match as they just go to commercial break. Good way to put more heat on Bully Ray by screwing over Flip Gordon from a win and the fans from a clean finish. I was critical of Bully Ray earlier on in the year, but the last couple months have been great from him. And there's been a lot of build between Flip and Bully to merit the big stipulation finale. Should be fun.

- SCU! Sky and Kaz come out to cut their "worst town" gimmick, but The Briscoes jump them from behind. The Briscoes put themselves over as being the "OGs" of the company and Ladder War. The Young Bucks come out to drive The Briscoes off. And we get a stareoff between SCU and The Bucks. SCU gets pushed into The Bucks' backs by The Briscoes. SUPERKICKS FOR BOTH TEAMS!!! The Bucks get out a ladder, but Kaz kicks the ladder into The Bucks. SCU climbs the ladder and stands tall to end the segment. Good fun segment to build up to the Final Battle Ladder War.

- Christopher Daniels cuts a promo sitting in front of a camera. He talks about the year-long storyline of having a year left in the company. He puts over the match with Scurll as a chance to get a title shot and get a fresh start with ROH. He's willing to prove he still has what it takes. Fun promo and another solid way to promote the big match at Final Battle.

- The main event is The Kingdom taking on Dalton Castle, Cody, and Jay Lethal in a 6-Man Tag. 2 big storylines here (Castle vs. Taven and Cody vs. Jay Lethal), both happening at Final Battle. Insane amount of streamers welcome Castle into the ring. Cody gets a lot of streamers too. And Jay Lethal makes 3 straight entrances with a lot of streamers. Early miscommunication between Lethal and Cody with some arguing and Cody diving out onto Lethal by accident trying to hit one of the members of The Kingdom.
TK O'Ryan gets a lot of action in the ring, bumping around left and right thanks to the frequent tags between Cody, Lethal, and Castle. The Kingdom get involved and get Cody in their corner. TK finally tags out. And The Kingdom now start using frequent tags against Cody, beating him down in their corner. Cody snap slams TK eventually and gets the tag to Dalton Castle. Taven breaks up Castle's momentum and starts beating him up around ringside along with Vinny. And Castle now gets attacked by The Kingdom on their side of the ring. \
A short DDT gets Castle the time to tag in Jay Lethal. Lethal goes on a tear, knocking dowm all the members of The Kingdom. Castle goes out after Taven and chases him throughout the hall. So, this basically has now become a tag match. Cody tags in on Lethal. Lethal does not appreciate it. Craziness back and forth between the two teams with a lot of misdirection and switching offense. Cross Rhodes on TK ends the match for his team. Good main event match here.  A very good build up to Final Battle.

After the match, Cody says he'll see Jay at Final Battle. Pre-Taped Promos end the show.
Overall, this show did a very good job building up to Final Battle and served as a great commercial for the show. The two matches that bookended this show were good enough to serve their purpose. So, overall, I'm giving this a thumbs-up. Good business.

I'll be reviewing Final Battle and posting the review as soon as the show ends.

Until next time, take care of yourselves. Spread some awesomeness.

UnWrest Focus REWIND: Vader vs. Cactus Jack (WCW Halloween Havoc, 10/24/1993)

Spin the Wheel, Make The Deal. That was the gimmick going into this iconic match between two of the hardest hitting wrestlers of all time. It was the storyline months in development: Cactus Jack had just returned after Vader mauled him with a battery of injuries and a concussion to get his revenge. Vader, a merciless monster who delivers pain and punishment to all his vicitms, faced Cactus Jack, the one guy who would take Vader's assault and like the orphan Annie would ask for more. And if Vader wanted to brawl, no one could take Vader's offense and return it in spades quite like Cactus Jack. So, WCW billed the match as "Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal." The idea being that the actual stipulation of the match would be determined on Halloween Havoc by the spin of a big wheel. (If only wrestling could take the "Big Wheel" from The Price is Right. And of course, we'd have to make sure it goes all the way around.) So, the wheel landed that night on a Texas D

WCW Spring Stampede 1994 Review- WCW At Its Best + Flair/Steamboat In Another Classic

It's WCW in early 1994. We're now working up the hype for the eventual debut of Hulk Hogan to the company. This seems like the final last gasp of what WCW was prior to Hogan's debut with the company. Tonight, we are getting WCW World Champion Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat 5 years after their classic feud (covered on UnWrest Focus earlier). We are also getting International World Champion Ravishing Rick Rude vs. Sting. We also have Steve Austin defending his U.S. Championship against The Great Muta! And Cactus Jack and Maxx Payne go to war with The Nasty Boys in a Chicago Street Fight. Here we go! Mean Gene Okerlund welcomes us to the show as fireworks go off. We're in the Rosemont Horizon in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. Aaron Neville sings the National Anthem holding on to as many harmonies and vowels as he can. Tony Schiavone and Bobby Heenan put over the main event. 1) Johnny B. Badd vs. Diamond Dallas Page (w/ Diamond Doll) Badd comes out dressed like
