UnWrest (ROH, 11/30/18)- The Road to Final Battle Goes On and On

I hear that Ring of Honor has some sort of show going on December 14th. Let's Do This....

ROH Thoughts 11/30/18 (Watched on 12/6/18)

- We get a recap of the solid build up for Ladder War between The Young Bucks, SCU, and The Briscoes.

- K-I-N-G KING! Kenny King started off this episode of ROH in a match against Christopher Daniels. Marty Scurll is on commentary and announces that it will be him versus Christopher Daniels at Final Battle. Kenny King, for his part, gets on the mic and calls Daniels an old man. And the only SCU Daniels will be associated with is the Senior Citizens Unit at Allegheny General (the ROH tapings were in Pittsburgh, PA). Daniels and King have a fairly good match. Daniels is seemingly ageless in the way that he can perform still. King kicks Daniels into the referee, kicks Daniels in the ding-ding, and nails the Royal Flush for the win. Daniels continues to do the honors on his way out of Ring of Honor. Class act.

- The next match is Jeff Cobb facing Josh Woods. Hangman Page comes out during the match and sits on the stage watching Cobb's match. Woods, for his part, impresses here with a nice sequence of technical, amateur wrestling during the match keeping Cobb off balance from his usual power game. Cobb does do some powerful moves in the match, including a VICIOUS Release Fall-Away Slam. Woods' undoing comes when he springboards into the waiting arms of Cobb who hits the Tour of the Islands Spinning Power Slam for the win.   After the match, Hangman Page comes into the ring with a mic. Page tells Cobb to get out of hte ring, and he'll show him how a butt kicking is doen.

- Page gets his wish when he faces Facade (w/Danni). We come back from break to see Cobb sitting on stage while Page works on Facade. Running Shooting Star Press off the apron NEVER ceases to impress. Facade gets a couple impressive moves in on Page, but Page hits a big boot on a flying Facade. Corner Release Fall-Away Slam connects from Page. Facade fights ba ck and nails some impressive flips and dives. A Springboard 450 Double Ax Handle connects to Page on the floor. That took more words to type than it was impressive. BUCKSHOT LARIAT AND RITE OF PASSAGE finishes off Facade though. Still, a very good showing for Facade.    After the match, Cobb gets back in the ring and faces off with Page as we go to commercial.

- We get a replay of the end of the Survival of the Fittest match with Daniels and Scurll. Scurll and Daniels have an argument after the match. Daniels demands to face him for the title shot. Scurll thinks it's sad, but he'll give him the shot at Final Battle.

- The main event sees CMLL's Stuka Jr. and Guerrero Maya Jr. taking on  SCU's Scorpio Sky and Frankie Kazarian for the ROH World Tag Team Championships. One part of the match bothered me: When one of the CMLL guys had Scorpio Sky up for the Mexican Surfboard, Kazarian tagged himself in from a different corner than the one assigned the team. The referee allowed it. I get that it's a work, but seriously, if you aren't going to abide by the common rules that professional wrestling has operated under, you might as well not even have them. I was not a fan of this match to be honest, and as such, it was just an ok main event.

Daniels comes out after the match and cuts a promo on Marty Scurll saying that he will go through Scurll to stay in the company that he helped build. Scurll comes to the ring from commentary. Scurll asks Daniels if he wants to be known as a legend (going over all his credentials) or for being known for a stupid 3-letter catchphrase? It'll be Scurll's pleasure to give him the match of his career. Warning though: This is Daniels' Final Battle.

Overall, this was another solid show to build towards Final Battle. A lot of programs were once again promoted, and we got 4 matches sandwiched in to a 51 minute program. Thumbs up for the effort of getting over the big event next week.

Until next time, take care of yourselves. Spread some awesomeness.

WWE Evolution Predictions + Thoughts on An Underpromoted All-Women PPV

Credit: WWE WWE Evolution Promotional Poster This should feel like a bigger deal. After all, this is the first time ever that an All-Women PPV is taking place under the WWE corporate umbrella. But WWE has done a great job of completely killing the show with an uninspired card, lack of promotion, lack of interest overall, and finding a million different other things to promote to undermine the event. Still, some fans (like myself) want to give the women their due and hope to enjoy this show. Here's a rundown of the card and my predictions for each match: 1) Raw Women's Championship: Ronda Rousey (c) vs. Nikki Bella If this goes longer than 5 minutes, it's definitely too long. As good as Nikki can be in the ring (at times), Rousey should just absolutely massacre her. The only ways to prolong this match in a realistic way would be 1) an injury angle or 2) Twin Magic with Brie interfering. Otherwise, this should be short and awesome. Prediction: Ronda Retains 2)

WWE TLC 2018 Review- Tables and Ladders and Chairs, Oh My!

HERE WE GO!    Pre-Show   1) WWE Cruiserweight Championship   Buddy Murphy (champ) vs. Cedric Alexander   They started this match early. Apparently, they wanted just as many fans in the arena as there usually are in 205 Live matches for this to give it the authentic feel.   The bell rings. A lot of tie-ups and switches to start up the match to a good reaction from the crowd. A Loud 205 Chant. Alexander takes down Murphy to the floor. Really good back and forth action here with both men moving quickly. Alexander catches Murphy with a dropkick for a 2 count. BIG KNEE to the head of Alexander sends him to the floor. Murphy flies off the top rope and hits a Meteora (maybe that’s what they were going for?) for a 2 count. Murphy has the advantage for a few moments, including a power choke on the corner on Alexander. He jumps off it to eat a SUPERKICK to the chest. Crowd seems invested in the match. That’s a good sign. UnWrest Focus REWIND: Vader vs. Cactus Jack (WCW Halloween Havoc, 10/24/1993)

Spin the Wheel, Make The Deal. That was the gimmick going into this iconic match between two of the hardest hitting wrestlers of all time. It was the storyline months in development: Cactus Jack had just returned after Vader mauled him with a battery of injuries and a concussion to get his revenge. Vader, a merciless monster who delivers pain and punishment to all his vicitms, faced Cactus Jack, the one guy who would take Vader's assault and like the orphan Annie would ask for more. And if Vader wanted to brawl, no one could take Vader's offense and return it in spades quite like Cactus Jack. So, WCW billed the match as "Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal." The idea being that the actual stipulation of the match would be determined on Halloween Havoc by the spin of a big wheel. (If only wrestling could take the "Big Wheel" from The Price is Right. And of course, we'd have to make sure it goes all the way around.) So, the wheel landed that night on a Texas D
