UnWrest (MLW, 12/7/18)- At Its Best

This may be the best hour of TV wrestling this past week. Apologies for getting this out late. But enough of the gaga. Let's get to it!

MLW Thoughts
- Simon Gotch is walking outside when Tom Lawlor runs up to try to get revenge. Gotch runs behind a door while Ricky Martinez jumps Lawlor from behind. Lawlor dives at Martinez into the arena, and Gotch closes the door and smiles.

- Tony puts over the LIVE special coming next week and the Rush vs. Samme Guevara match. Ace Romero will also make his debut versus Marko Stunt.
- The first match is Jason Cade versus Teddy Hart. Cade gets a few shots in on Hart early on. Hart takes the classic Bret Hart chest first bump into the corner. Lungblower by Teddy Hart stops that momentum. Hart impresses with a lot of improv moves during the match, including a Hammerlock into a Hammerlock DDT and a MOONSAULT ELBOW DROP! Cade impresses as well with a handspring into a Codebreaker. Cade continues to punish Hart on the floor and even backhand paintbrushes Pillman in the face. He puts Hart on the guard rail and hits a Springboard Legdrop from one part of the rail to the other on Hart. Frog Splash is met with knees from Hart. Electric Chair Lungblower by Hart. Dear God. A Stu Hart Special (Gory Special into a Sit-Down Powerbomb) for a 2 count. Geez!!! Cade hits a few other impressive moves later on, including a running double stomp into the corner on Hart. A Canadian Destroyer off the corner by Hart along with ANOTHER ONE OFF THE TOP ON CADE ends the match. Teddy Hart wins an absolutely great opening match for this card.

- Backstage, Salina de la Renta is shown complaining on the phone. Konnan walks up and talks smack to her about her men loving last week. He's going to take the title from Low Ki next week.

- Konnan is shown backstage and "finds" Ricky Martine lying and bleeding from the mouth. I think you know what happened here.

- Marko Stunt (143lbs, 5'2") takes on Ace Romero (400lbs, 6'). Marko is dancing and jiving to Ace's theme. Wow. This poor little dude. He tries to German suplex Ace to no effect. Cat and mouse game early on with Stunt trying to hit and attack Ace to no effect. ACE DESTROYS HIM WITH A RUNNING DROPKICK! Ace goes on the apron, pulls Marko on the apron, climbs the middle turnbuckle, but MISSES a legdrop off the middle corner buckle. Stunt kicks Ace in the head several times and hits a Suicide Dive. But Ace follows back with a running torpedo sending Stunt flying back into the guard rail! Geez. Running Elbow drop in the ring only gets a 2 for Ace. Ace chops Stunt in the corner, but Stunt hulks up! Dropkicks! Ace does the Yokozuna fallback play. Stunt goes back to cat-and-mouse. Springboard Senton to a bent over back of Ace. 1 count. Ace Romero gets almost upset with a Tilt-A-Whirl Codebreaker. Ace catches Stunt around the corner. He climbs up and deadlifts Stunt with one arm up the corner. A SUNSET FLIP POWERBOMB OFF THE TOP ROPE ON ACE!!!! 1-2-KICKOUT! Stunt almost did it! Stunt climbs up the corner, dives off at Romero, but gets caught in the Spinning Powerslam. Ace wins the match.

** Note: I hate the underdog little guy facing a Super-Heavyweight most of the time. There have been only a few times I've ever really gotten invested in this type of a match. Just read my Cheeseburger reviews on ROH to see what I mean. But this was a damn entertaining match from start to finish and really puts over Stunt. Well booked match with the right finish. **

- Salina is sick of dealing with Konnan. Low Ki offered Konnan respect... but Ricky Martinez crawls in bleeding. He points out that Konnan did this to him. Low Ki runs off with Salina.

- The main event is Sammy Guevara vs. Los Ingobernables' RUSH. (Note: This is the original Los Ingobernables faction, not the Los Ingobernables de Japon group, if you are are wondering.) This is my first time seeing Rush wrestle. So this should be interesting. A very fun match unfolds as Rush and Guevara trade a good bit of taunting at each other. I watch so much NJPW that I had to remind myself that the Tranquilo pose Rush did is a Los Ingobernables trademark, not just a Naito thing. There are a couple awkward spots throughout the match, but this was a solid main event match overall. Shooting Star Press into the knees of Guevara leads to Rush hitting a Double Arm Underhook Piledriver for the win.

After the match, he tells the audience that he wants LA Park.

We see Low Ki and Salina get into a car and run off from Lawlor. Lawlor gives chase as the show ends.

Overall, this was a very entertaining hour of wrestling. Believe it or not, I'm ready to declare this the best single hour of regularly televised wrestling for the week. So, MLW wins the week in my opinion.

Until next time, take care of yourselves. Spread some awesomeness.

UnWrest Focus REWIND: Vader vs. Cactus Jack (WCW Halloween Havoc, 10/24/1993)

Spin the Wheel, Make The Deal. That was the gimmick going into this iconic match between two of the hardest hitting wrestlers of all time. It was the storyline months in development: Cactus Jack had just returned after Vader mauled him with a battery of injuries and a concussion to get his revenge. Vader, a merciless monster who delivers pain and punishment to all his vicitms, faced Cactus Jack, the one guy who would take Vader's assault and like the orphan Annie would ask for more. And if Vader wanted to brawl, no one could take Vader's offense and return it in spades quite like Cactus Jack. So, WCW billed the match as "Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal." The idea being that the actual stipulation of the match would be determined on Halloween Havoc by the spin of a big wheel. (If only wrestling could take the "Big Wheel" from The Price is Right. And of course, we'd have to make sure it goes all the way around.) So, the wheel landed that night on a Texas D

WCW Spring Stampede 1994 Review- WCW At Its Best + Flair/Steamboat In Another Classic

It's WCW in early 1994. We're now working up the hype for the eventual debut of Hulk Hogan to the company. This seems like the final last gasp of what WCW was prior to Hogan's debut with the company. Tonight, we are getting WCW World Champion Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat 5 years after their classic feud (covered on UnWrest Focus earlier). We are also getting International World Champion Ravishing Rick Rude vs. Sting. We also have Steve Austin defending his U.S. Championship against The Great Muta! And Cactus Jack and Maxx Payne go to war with The Nasty Boys in a Chicago Street Fight. Here we go! Mean Gene Okerlund welcomes us to the show as fireworks go off. We're in the Rosemont Horizon in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. Aaron Neville sings the National Anthem holding on to as many harmonies and vowels as he can. Tony Schiavone and Bobby Heenan put over the main event. 1) Johnny B. Badd vs. Diamond Dallas Page (w/ Diamond Doll) Badd comes out dressed like
