ROH (2/15/19)- Bringing Honor Back to ROH

If you like many people wrestling in the ring at the same time, have I got a show for you!

ROH Thoughts ( 2/15/19; Ep #387)

- The show begins immediately after the video introduction with our first match (no introductions) as Rhett Titus, Luchasaurus, Chris Sabin, Kenny King, Shane Taylor, and Flip Gordon in a Six-Man Match. Sabin and Saurus start us off. Then King and Titus work a couple minutes. Shane Taylor walks in, and he tries to sucker his former teammates into an attack. But he gets dumped to the floor. Luchasaurus gets thrown out as well. Flip Gordon throws Titus out of the ring and goes after Kenny King. (Tags and Lucha Rules apply in this match.)  Chaos unfolds as men are coming in and out of the ring in rapid progression. We get to our commercial break as all 6 men are laying in the ring or on the floor.

We come back to see Rhett Titus dive onto a bunch of wrestlers on the floor. Kenny King gets a blockbuster on Taylor in the ring. Taylor and King get removed from the ring. Taylor does the Cannonball off the apron onto King and Titus. Luchasaurus does a climbing Somersault Dive onto everyone on the floor. Flip is on the balcony at Atlanta's Center Stage and flips on everyone on the floor. Flip rolls Taylor into the ring. 450 off the corner by Flip. He gets pulled to the floor. King decks Flip with a steel chair. King has been ejected from the match by the referee. Titus gets a Samoan Drop on Taylor. Taylor hits Greetings from 216. 1-2-3. Shane Taylor wins as he continues to be given a moderate amount of attention and "push."

(Good opening match overall. But there was nothing there that will be remembered in an hour or two from now.)

- Marcus Kross and Griff Garrison (Who the hell are these guys?) are up next as they take on The Bouncers. And they walk through the crowd with their kegs in tow. Kross and Garrison prove they are no match for the size and the power of Milonas. Milonas just knocks both men down and tags in the Bruiser. Bruiser and Milonas take turns squashing Kross in the ring. Garrison gets the tag, but he soon gets destroyed by Bruiser and Milonas. Kross gets Buckle Bombed into Garrison. Closing Time/PowerPlex by The Bouncers.

(An enhancement match here for The Bouncers. They get an easy win to help build themselves up for the likely losses down the road. Still, it's always good to see these guys break out the Powerplex/Closing Time finisher.

- The ROH Tag Team Championships are on the line next as The Briscoes are supposed to defend against Best Friends. But Beretta is out due to a family situation. So, Chuckie T selects as his partner for tonight... COLT CABANA. Colt strips to his gear at the announce table and dives in with Chuckie T to begin the war with Dem Boys. They start fighting in the ring and then spill out to the floor. The Briscoes take advantage soon on Colt some of their classic offense, including Mark's Cactus Jack Elbow off the apron onto the floor.
Chuckie T gets the brunt of the violence for the next few minutes of the match in and out of the ring. Chuckie gets a mid-corner dropkick on Jay Briscoe. Colt gets the tag. Colt gets a great Asai Moonsault on The Briscoes. Colt starts going after both Briscoes. Colt and Mark start going at it, and Mark takes him down with a modified bulldog. Jay gets the tag as does Chuckie T moments later. Standing Sliced Bread by Chuckie T. 2 count only. All four men start fighting on the floor around where the old WCW Saturday Nights were taped. Colt gets placed on a chair and gets hit with a Blockbuster while sitting on the chair. Back in the ring, Chuckie and The Briscoes go at it for a few moments. Chuckie gets a good near fall on one of Jay Briscoe. But a Jay Driller kills the feel good moment. 1-2-3.

(The Briscoes are a great tag team to watch doing their thing. This is no different even though it was about as throwaway of a match as can be possibly imagined. Still, all four men put on a good show, and at the end of the day, that is all that matters.)

After the match, The Briscoes beat down on Chuckie T and set Chuckie T on it.  FROGGY BOW OFF THE TOP ROPE THROUGH CHUCKIE T ON THE FLOOR. MY GOD! THEY'VE SENT CHUCKIE T THROUGH THE TABLE ALL THE WAY TO JACKSONVILLE! 😁😉

(And thus ends the ROH run of Chuckie T and Beretta.)

- ROH World Champion Jay Lethal is introduced to the ring. He's got a lot on his mind. Lethal talks about the pressures that he has on him. He's watching ROH deteriorate in front of his eyes. He discusses The Briscoes and Bully Ray doing their garbage and the fake championship that Matt Taven is carrying around. Juice Robinson and LifeBlood come out. They are not inviting him to join their group, but they feel the same way that he does. Lethal runs down the members of LifeBlood and how great they are. (Having the ROH World Champion take the time to run through an entire stable and say how great each member is takes times, but it is worth it.) He wishes them all good luck. Juice wants Lethal to find four partners. 10 Man Tag for next week. They shake hands on it.

(Cool setup for next week here. Some may complain that there was no "heat" on this. Sometimes, you don't need heat if you can build up a match in advance. Here is a rarity in wrestling: a match set-up based on plain honor. No aggression. No stealing girlfriends or some other silly stuff. Just ten guys wrestling because they want to help make the company better. I'm actually looking forward to next week's show more because of this segment.)

Overall, this wasn't the most noteworthy edition of ROH Wrestling, but it hardly felt like a waste of time. The opening match was a good chaotic brawl, something to just sit back and take in. The Bruisers got a quick "enhancement match" victory. The Briscoes did their thing in their Tag Team Championship match and sent another team packing for Jacksonville. And we got a good segment to close the show featuring the newest stable in the company and its World Champion. They packed a lot into this 51 minute show, as usual.

Until next time, take care of yourselves. Spread some awesomeness.

WWE Evolution Predictions + Thoughts on An Underpromoted All-Women PPV

Credit: WWE WWE Evolution Promotional Poster This should feel like a bigger deal. After all, this is the first time ever that an All-Women PPV is taking place under the WWE corporate umbrella. But WWE has done a great job of completely killing the show with an uninspired card, lack of promotion, lack of interest overall, and finding a million different other things to promote to undermine the event. Still, some fans (like myself) want to give the women their due and hope to enjoy this show. Here's a rundown of the card and my predictions for each match: 1) Raw Women's Championship: Ronda Rousey (c) vs. Nikki Bella If this goes longer than 5 minutes, it's definitely too long. As good as Nikki can be in the ring (at times), Rousey should just absolutely massacre her. The only ways to prolong this match in a realistic way would be 1) an injury angle or 2) Twin Magic with Brie interfering. Otherwise, this should be short and awesome. Prediction: Ronda Retains 2)

WWE TLC 2018 Review- Tables and Ladders and Chairs, Oh My!

HERE WE GO!    Pre-Show   1) WWE Cruiserweight Championship   Buddy Murphy (champ) vs. Cedric Alexander   They started this match early. Apparently, they wanted just as many fans in the arena as there usually are in 205 Live matches for this to give it the authentic feel.   The bell rings. A lot of tie-ups and switches to start up the match to a good reaction from the crowd. A Loud 205 Chant. Alexander takes down Murphy to the floor. Really good back and forth action here with both men moving quickly. Alexander catches Murphy with a dropkick for a 2 count. BIG KNEE to the head of Alexander sends him to the floor. Murphy flies off the top rope and hits a Meteora (maybe that’s what they were going for?) for a 2 count. Murphy has the advantage for a few moments, including a power choke on the corner on Alexander. He jumps off it to eat a SUPERKICK to the chest. Crowd seems invested in the match. That’s a good sign. UnWrest Focus REWIND: Vader vs. Cactus Jack (WCW Halloween Havoc, 10/24/1993)

Spin the Wheel, Make The Deal. That was the gimmick going into this iconic match between two of the hardest hitting wrestlers of all time. It was the storyline months in development: Cactus Jack had just returned after Vader mauled him with a battery of injuries and a concussion to get his revenge. Vader, a merciless monster who delivers pain and punishment to all his vicitms, faced Cactus Jack, the one guy who would take Vader's assault and like the orphan Annie would ask for more. And if Vader wanted to brawl, no one could take Vader's offense and return it in spades quite like Cactus Jack. So, WCW billed the match as "Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal." The idea being that the actual stipulation of the match would be determined on Halloween Havoc by the spin of a big wheel. (If only wrestling could take the "Big Wheel" from The Price is Right. And of course, we'd have to make sure it goes all the way around.) So, the wheel landed that night on a Texas D
