UnWrest Focus Rewind- Marty Scurll vs. Will Ospreay- ROH Reach for the Sky (London) 11/20/16

As I'm typing this, Will Ospreay and Marty Scurll will be meeting later tonight for a chance at the vacant NJPW Jr. Heavyweight Championship. So, I figured "What better way to get myself hyped for the match than to watch one of their earlier matches?" And that's what I'm doing here.
So, we're going back to a Ring of Honor tour in the UK to see these two up-and-coming superstars collide for the first time as Will Ospreay defends his then-newly won ROH World TV Championship against "The Villain" Marty Scurll. Woop Woop.

Here we go.

(For the record, I'm watching the Honor Club event for this.)

Dueling chants of Ospreay and Scurll before the bell rings. Here we go.
Tie up. Both men jockeying for position. Ospreay with a headlock and arm lock. Scurll flips out and reverses. Ospreay does the same. A lot of counter wrestling going on with seamless back and forth action. For a good minute, they are just flipping through moves, countering the other's offense, moving at a fast pace, and then suddenly stop to hit signature poses in the other's face. It's a standoff, and a damn well executed one at that.
Dueling chants again. Scurll suckers Ospreay in and gets in some offense. Big chops now. Dropkick by Ospreay. Big chop by Ospreay. Octopus Lock by Ospreay, which he transitions into a rollup for a 2. Uppercut now. Scurll reverses an Irish whip, but he ends up falling out to the floor. Ospreay dives over the ropes, jumps on the apron, and nails a running Shooting Star Press dive onto Scurll. Scurll crawls under the ring and catches Ospreay with a clothesline. Scurll is taking a couple victory laps around the ring to celebrate his brilliance. Lol. Scurll tries to ram Ospreay into the guard rail, but Ospreay elbows him away. He jumps on the rail, looking to dive onto Scurll. Scurll drags the referee between them and then throws Ospreay face first into the ringpost for a sick sounding smack! Now Scurll picks up Ospreay in a piledriver like position and SLINGS HIS HEAD BACK AND FORTH AGAINST THE RAILS.
Scurll continues the attack again on Ospreay, hitting his body while draped on the apron. Scurll plays to the crowd. And then he runs back in the ring and dropkicks Ospreay. He starts working on the arm of Ospreay, kicking a bent arm of Ospreay in the arm. The fans are singing, furthering my belief that England is a magical place like Disney World. Snapmare on Ospreay. Dropkick to the back of the head. Version of the Million Dollar Dream/Cobra Clutch locked in on Ospreay. Ospreay gets out, executes a beautiful series of flips, and then hits a handspring back kick to Scurll. Wow.
Ospreay gets flipped going over the corner, but he fights off Scurll. He springboards off but misses a dive onto Scurll. Scurll gets German Suplexed by Ospreay. Ospreay then hits a SPRINGBOARD FOREARM for a 2. Ospreay climbs the corner. Scurll meets him there and stops him in his tracks. Scurll climbs up and tries to suplex Ospreay down. Ospreay rolls through and catches Scurll on the corner. Scurll grabs the hand, but Ospreay drags his head down and nails a kick to the head of Scurll. He rolls him off the corner onto the mat for a 2 count.
Scurll eventually answers with a series of strikes and kicks at Ospreay, sending him back into the ropes. Then he hits a snap slam on Ospreay sending him back into the ropes upside down on his head. Butterfly bomb drop by Scurll for a 2 count cover. (I don't know what that move is called. I'm just making it up as I go. Lol.)  Scurll is getting hyped up... CHICKEN WING TAUNT meets a back kick by Ospreay. Scurll is outside. OSPREAY NAILS AN UNBELIEVABLE SHOOTING STAR PRESS DIVE OFF THE TOP ROPE TO THE FLOOR ONTO SCURLL.
Scurll is rolled back into the ring. Ospreay climbs up the corner, but Scurll catches him with a kick. SCURLL HITS A TOP ROPE SUPERPLEX ON OSPREAY, ROLLS THROUGH, AND HITS A FALCON ARROW... INTO THE CHICKEN WING SUBMISSION!!!! Wow. He's got Ospreay grapevined, locking in the submission deep. But Ospreay rolls over to get into the ropes. WOW! Ospreay rolls to the outside. Scurll jumps on the apron and nails a kick to the side of Ospreay's head. ANOTHER ONE. Ospreay is getting hyped up! A THIRD ONE! Ospreay is having NONE of this.
They go back into the ring. They are going at it. Back elbow to each man. Scurll catches Ospreay with a kick to the leg. Kicks back and forth with Ospreay nailing a spinning back kick to Scurll. Both men are down. This is awesome!!! Scurll and Ospreay exchange punches and forearms slowly at first. The strikes come in hard. Ospreay gets caught, and SCURLL SNAPS HIS DAMN FINGERS!!!! The fans let Scurll know how sick he is. Ospreay tries to catch Scurll in the corner with another kick, but Scurll dropkicks him in the face. SUPLEX BY SCURLL IS REVERSED INTO A STUNNER! Running Shooting Star Press by Ospreay who rolls into the corner, jumps off for a moonsault, lands on his feet, hits ANOTHER Running Shooting Star Press, goes back to the corner, hits the moonsault, jumps onto the ropes to hit the Oscutter.... BUT SCRULL CATCHES HIM MIDAIR AND LOCKS IN THE CHICKEN WING!!!!! HE'S DEAD CENTER IN THE RING! OSPREAY ROLLS INTO A PIN ATTEMPT. 1-2-KICKOUT!
Enziguri now by Ospreay! POP-UP POWERBOMB by Scurll. RUNNING LARIAT by Scurll! 1- KICKOUT!!!! RUNNING CANADIAN DESTROYER BY SCURLL! 1-2-KICKOUT!!!! Incredible stuff here. Scurll goes to the outside and looks at the belt. He picks up his umbrella and brings it in the ring. He plays up like he's going to hit Ospreay. Ospreay gives him two fingers, and SCURLL SNAPS BOTH OF THEM!!!! HE SNAPS MORE FINGERS! KNEE TO THE JAW! STOMPS TO THE BACK OF THE HEAD OF A PRONE OSPREAY! CHICKEN WING IS LOCKED IN!!!!!! OSPREAY HAS NO CHOICE BUT TO TAP! NEW TV CHAMPION! WOW!

Winner: Marty Scurll (New ROH TV Champion)
Match Grade: A. Wow. That was an awesome match! These guys just destroyed each other for about 20 minutes here. Back and forth action. They grappled as well as they brawled. Ospreay brought his aerial attacks into play in several key moments. Their in-ring chemistry was also incredible. They were able to do many different counters and mesh their styles of wrestling into a great storytelling that didn't need melodramatics to spice it up.  The ending was great here as Scurll had to absolutely unleash a savage attack on Ospreay to finally put him away. Great great match that makes me excited to see more from these two.

Until next time, take care of yourselves and spread some awesomeness. Woop Woop.

WWE Evolution Predictions + Thoughts on An Underpromoted All-Women PPV

Credit: WWE WWE Evolution Promotional Poster This should feel like a bigger deal. After all, this is the first time ever that an All-Women PPV is taking place under the WWE corporate umbrella. But WWE has done a great job of completely killing the show with an uninspired card, lack of promotion, lack of interest overall, and finding a million different other things to promote to undermine the event. Still, some fans (like myself) want to give the women their due and hope to enjoy this show. Here's a rundown of the card and my predictions for each match: 1) Raw Women's Championship: Ronda Rousey (c) vs. Nikki Bella If this goes longer than 5 minutes, it's definitely too long. As good as Nikki can be in the ring (at times), Rousey should just absolutely massacre her. The only ways to prolong this match in a realistic way would be 1) an injury angle or 2) Twin Magic with Brie interfering. Otherwise, this should be short and awesome. Prediction: Ronda Retains 2)...

WWE TLC 2018 Review- Tables and Ladders and Chairs, Oh My!

HERE WE GO!    Pre-Show   1) WWE Cruiserweight Championship   Buddy Murphy (champ) vs. Cedric Alexander   They started this match early. Apparently, they wanted just as many fans in the arena as there usually are in 205 Live matches for this to give it the authentic feel.   The bell rings. A lot of tie-ups and switches to start up the match to a good reaction from the crowd. A Loud 205 Chant. Alexander takes down Murphy to the floor. Really good back and forth action here with both men moving quickly. Alexander catches Murphy with a dropkick for a 2 count. BIG KNEE to the head of Alexander sends him to the floor. Murphy flies off the top rope and hits a Meteora (maybe that’s what they were going for?) for a 2 count. Murphy has the advantage for a few moments, including a power choke on the corner on Alexander. He jumps off it to eat a SUPERKICK to the chest. Crowd seems invested in the matc...

WWE Super Show-Down 2018 Review: Last Time Ever Delivers + Some Other Solid Matches

Another big show in the WWE this year will happen today as WWE comes from Melbourne, Australia in front of 70,000 people. A lot of big matches are happening here. Let's Do This! No Pre-Show today. It's straight to the show. The new WWE opening takes place, and we get a WWE video package putting over the show and the LAST TIME EVER match. It looks like the Raw Announce Team will be calling the show. We go to the arena, and they've already spent more money on fireworks than they have for WWE programming this year. 70,309 in attendance. For once, the entrance way is understated. 1) SmackDown Live Tag Team Championship The Bar vs. The New Day (c) I wonder if Vince/WWE Management is ordering people to run the aisle tonight. Both tag teams were doing that coming to the ring.  Nice back and forth action with Kingston and Cesaro, along with Woods after getting the tag. Woods and Kingston had an awesome sequence of moves to start off. The Bar a minute later catches bot...
