UnWrest Focus: WARGAMES (Team WCW vs. Team nWo)

Welcome to the latest post in this edition of UnWrest Focus WarGames Edition. We are nearing the end, and let's be real: 1993 and 1995 sucked the life out of WarGames. But by 1996, WCW in storyline was having the life sucked out of it by a band of invaders known as the nWo. In reality, this group brought a shot of adrenaline that WCW sorely needed to overtake WWF as the #1 promotion in the country.

Hulk Hogan had "betrayed" WCW at June's Bash at the Beach in this amazing promo:  Hogan Turns Heel!!! .

The next month saw the nWo ravage and pillage WCW for all it was worth. Hogan would wind up defeating The Giant for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship and spraypainting "nWo" on the Big Gold Belt.

Later, WCW would also an attack from The Outsiders during an episode of Nitro that unified the heels and faces of WCW in anger towards this renegade group: Chaos Backstage during Nitro

And to make matters worse, THIS happened: A Giant Addition to the nWo

So, it's fair to see that the virus that was the nWo was spreading. It had infiltrated WCW, and it wasn't going anywhere. And now with another 7' monster in its stable, the nWo was unstoppable. But the week after the previously mentioned/shown backstage attack on Nitro, Arn Anderson cut this amazing short promo about his new motivation for revenge against the nWo. This is a must watch promo: The Enforcer on the nWo .

So, the teams were set supposedly: Team nWo would be Hall, Nash, Hogan, and a mystery partner. Team WCW would be Flair, Arn, Luger, and Sting. But Sting's allegiances were brought into question. And the week before WarGames, this happened:   "Sting" Turns on WCW and Luger

That's right. STING had joined the nWo. Or had he? Is he truly WCW or has he gone nWo for life?

Let's Find Out! LET THE WARGAMES BEGIN!!!!

WarGames
Team WCW (Flair, Arn, Lex Luger, and Sting?) vs. Team nWo (Hogan, Hall, Nash, and Sting?)

The fireworks go off on the cage as it lowers. Tony, Heenan, and Dusty put over the importance of the night and the fact that the future of WCW is at stake in this match.
Before the match introductions, Flair, Arn, and Luger are with Mike Tenay. Flair says there is no replacement for Sting. Flair says in a short minute The Horsemen are going to kick butt. Here comes Sting into the picture. Luger says he's been waiting 6 days to hear this. "Make it Short and Sweet." Sting: "It wasn't me Lex. It wasn't me." Luger knows it was him, and he doesn't trust him. Sting walks off and says he will see them in a little bit.
Michael Buffer does the rules and ring introductions for us. Scott Hall is the first one to come out, along with Ted DiBiase. And here comes Arn Anderson!!!! This is about as awesome of an opening as you can expect for this match. Arn and Scott are both in the cage.

The bell rings. Arn gets in the second ring with Hall, and Hall goes on the attack. Arn reverses and strikes at Hall. Hall goes head first into the cage. Hall kicks and strikes at Arn. Clothesline into the corner by Hall. Hall rakes Arn's face against the top rope. Arn gets the back of his head smashed against the back of the cage. Hall continues to kick and attack Arn. Arn gets knees into Hall's stomach. Chopblock into Hall's knee. Arn goes on the attack on the knee, dropping knees and locking in leg locks. Hall crawls away into the other ring. Arn follows him. Again, Hall catches him and starts kicking and striking Arn in the corner. Arn gets back to his feet and rams Hall face first into the turnbuckle. Punch to the gut by Arn. Sleeper hold by Arn now. Back suplex by Hall breaks the hold. ARN CATCHES HALL AND HITS THE BIG SPINEBUSTER! Arn locks in the Half Crab as it's announced that the nWo won the coin toss (again, no shock).
Here comes Kevin Nash!!!! Nash goes after Arn, but Arn hits him with a lot of punches. Hall grabs Arn's legs, and Nash hits the big boot to the face. Arn gets thrown into the cage. Snake Eyes by Nash followed by a big clothesline by Hall. Nash and Hall continue to attack and assault Arn. Here comes Luger...
And they let him in early. LUGER IS IN! He ducks an attack... AND HE NAILS THE DOUBLE CLOTHESLINE POP OF THE NIGHT!!!! Nash gets introduced to the cage face first as does Hall. Big clothesline to Nash by Luger. Another one for Hall. Flying forearms to both men now. Hall gets rammed into the cage face first by Luger twice. Arn gets Nash into the cage wall. Luger and Arn double team Hall, but Nash breaks it up. Arn gets sent into the steel by Arn. Hall gets sent into the cage seconds later. DDT to Hall by Arn.
HERE COMES HOLLYWOOD!!!! Hogan pounds on Luger and Arn, but they reverse it!!! They rip his shirt off. Luger punches Hogan in the corner. Hogan takes Arn into the second ring. He slams him and drops elbows. He now starts choking Arn. He goes to send Arn into the cage, but Arn REVERSES IT! Hogan's officially taken more bumps in this match than he did in 1995. Arn and Hogan are fighting. Luger and The Outsiders are going at it. Arn gets sent into the cage again by Hogan. Leg Drop to Arn by Hogan. Hall teeing off on Luger's head in the corner.
HERE COMES FLAIR!!!! He enters in the cage through the door to the other ring and tells Hogan to bring it! Here comes Hogan! Hogan goes after Flair with kickes and eye rakes! Flair decks Hogan, and the crowd erupts!!! FLAIR'S GOT KNUCKS! BOOM! Down goes Hogan!!! Nash goes to pick up Flair, and Flair gives him a low blow for his troubles! HE THEN MULE KICKS HALL DOWNSTAIRS!!! DIRTIEST PLAYER IN THE GAME! Arn drops the knee in Nash's Diesel Engine. Hall gets ATOMIC DROPPED BY LUGER! FIGURE FOUR ON HOGAN! THIS PLACE IS GOING NUTS! Here comes Sting.
IT'S STING!!!! Sting attacks Luger and hits the bulldog. He's attacking Flair and Arn. He continues to attack Luger in the corner. Arn goes to attack Nash in the corner, but HALL NAILS THE OUTSIDER'S EDGE. Hogan goes after Flair and knocks him up against the cage! Flair gets slammed by Hogan. LEG DROP! Sting hits the STINGER SPLASH TO ALL 3 OF TEAM WCW!!!
AND IT'S STING!!!! STING?! THE REAL STING!!!! Two Stings, and HE KICKS AND BULLDOGS THE FAKE ONE! He's going after Hall, Nash, and Hogan now! Sting is cleaning house! STINGER SPLASH TO HOGAN! ONE FOR HALL! ONE FOR NASH! AND ONE FOR THE FAKE STING! BULLDOG TO HALL!!!! Luger, Flair, and Arn now look at the real Sting who points down at the Fake Sting. Sting: "Is that good enough for you right there? Is that good enough?" HE FLIPS THEM OFF AND WALKS OUT THE DOOR. NOW STING HAS ABANDONED WCW... BUT THEN AGAIN, WCW ABANDONED HIM FIRST! (The beginning of a year and a half storyline here folks.)
Hogan goes on the attack on Luger. Big Boot to Luger. Leg Drop. Luger is screaming. Hogan is BITING Luger. Flair is chopping Hall in the corner. Nash is working on Arn. nWo Sting comes into the other cage with Hogan and Luger. Scorpion Deathlock to Luger with a Front Chancery (front headlock) by Hogan. The referees say that Luger has given up!

Winners: Team nWo
Match Grade: B. Well, this was a good WarGames. It looks like a masterpiece compared to the previous year's match. But it still pales in comparison to some of the earlier editions of the match. Nothing really mattered until Hogan, Flair, and the two Stings got involved. And again, as soon as WCW Sting left the cage, the match basically was over a minute later. Still, it had the crowd going for most of the match, had some cool exchanges like Flair and Hogan, and helped tell the story of the nWo dominance. So, it was a good one.

After the match, Hogan stomps Arn's head into the area between the rings. Luger gets kicked out of the ring after the cage lifts. Luger: "Sting! Stinger! Stinger!" Hogan goes back on the attack as does Hall and Nash. Arn and Flair goe back on the attack. Flair low blows Nash. Here's Savage who goes after Hogan. Hogan rolls to the second ring! Hogan begs off, but HERE COMES THE GIANT! He attacks Savage and nails a CHOKESLAM! Here comes Elizabeth! She gets into the ring. She's begging Hogan not to attack Savage. Elizabeth is covering Savage. Hogan has the spraypaint. And he's spraypaints nWo on her back and xx's down her lower end! Wow. That doesn't age well.
LOUD HOGAN SUCKS chants. "Yo Winston-Salem. You know something? These two losers, these two lowlifes, they made a sacred oath. And they said they would be together until "Death do us part." Courtesy of the nWo, we're going to make sure that that happens." AND HE SPITS ON HER! Where did this match take place? Winston-Salem, Saudi Arabia?! They continue to attack Savage right in front of Elizabeth and spraypaint nWo on his back. Wow. This is heat. Randy gets chokeslammed again as one of the referees is sheltering Elizabeth in the corner. But he gets thrown to the mat for his troubles.

WWE Evolution Predictions + Thoughts on An Underpromoted All-Women PPV

Credit: WWE WWE Evolution Promotional Poster This should feel like a bigger deal. After all, this is the first time ever that an All-Women PPV is taking place under the WWE corporate umbrella. But WWE has done a great job of completely killing the show with an uninspired card, lack of promotion, lack of interest overall, and finding a million different other things to promote to undermine the event. Still, some fans (like myself) want to give the women their due and hope to enjoy this show. Here's a rundown of the card and my predictions for each match: 1) Raw Women's Championship: Ronda Rousey (c) vs. Nikki Bella If this goes longer than 5 minutes, it's definitely too long. As good as Nikki can be in the ring (at times), Rousey should just absolutely massacre her. The only ways to prolong this match in a realistic way would be 1) an injury angle or 2) Twin Magic with Brie interfering. Otherwise, this should be short and awesome. Prediction: Ronda Retains 2)

WWE TLC 2018 Review- Tables and Ladders and Chairs, Oh My!

HERE WE GO!    Pre-Show   1) WWE Cruiserweight Championship   Buddy Murphy (champ) vs. Cedric Alexander   They started this match early. Apparently, they wanted just as many fans in the arena as there usually are in 205 Live matches for this to give it the authentic feel.   The bell rings. A lot of tie-ups and switches to start up the match to a good reaction from the crowd. A Loud 205 Chant. Alexander takes down Murphy to the floor. Really good back and forth action here with both men moving quickly. Alexander catches Murphy with a dropkick for a 2 count. BIG KNEE to the head of Alexander sends him to the floor. Murphy flies off the top rope and hits a Meteora (maybe that’s what they were going for?) for a 2 count. Murphy has the advantage for a few moments, including a power choke on the corner on Alexander. He jumps off it to eat a SUPERKICK to the chest. Crowd seems invested in the match. That’s a good sign. Combination kicks by Alexa

UnWrest Focus REWIND: Vader vs. Cactus Jack (WCW Halloween Havoc, 10/24/1993)

Spin the Wheel, Make The Deal. That was the gimmick going into this iconic match between two of the hardest hitting wrestlers of all time. It was the storyline months in development: Cactus Jack had just returned after Vader mauled him with a battery of injuries and a concussion to get his revenge. Vader, a merciless monster who delivers pain and punishment to all his vicitms, faced Cactus Jack, the one guy who would take Vader's assault and like the orphan Annie would ask for more. And if Vader wanted to brawl, no one could take Vader's offense and return it in spades quite like Cactus Jack. So, WCW billed the match as "Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal." The idea being that the actual stipulation of the match would be determined on Halloween Havoc by the spin of a big wheel. (If only wrestling could take the "Big Wheel" from The Price is Right. And of course, we'd have to make sure it goes all the way around.) So, the wheel landed that night on a Texas D
