UnWrest Focus: WARGAMES (The Rhodes/The Nasty Boys vs. The Stud Stable)

Welcome to another post in this UnWrest Focus edition looking at WarGames. The last WarGames was absolutely terrible. Make no mistake about it. I'd like to forget it, but like a bad Adam Sandler movie, the memory will likely haunt me until my dying day. We're in 1994 now. Dusty Rhodes, Arn Anderson, and Terry Funk are in this match. You add in The Nasty Boys, and you have the recipe for a fun brawl. Then again, the last one should have been epic and absolutely stunk. So, let's see what happens here and hope for the best.

WarGames
The Stud Stable (Col. Robert Parker, Bunkhouse Buck, Terry Funk, and Arn Anderson) vs. Dusty Rhodes, Dustin Rhodes, and The Nasty Boys

What a difference a year makes! Out is Jesse Ventura on commentary. In is Bobby "The Brain" Heenan. Mean Gene Okerlund does the WarGame rules for us this year in a pre-taped segment. Here comes The Stud Stable with Meng as the bodyguard for Parker. Then here comes the face team with The Nastys coming out to country music (Dustin's "Natural" theme). Odd visual there. Dusty has a Nasty Boys type shirt on. Lol. Dustin goes in the match first for his team. Not a big shocker there. Arn comes in for his team. HERE WE GO!

Arn and Dustin go at it immediately. Arn gets nailed with a right. The cameraman gives us a view of Dustin I never wanted to see from front to back, but we get a big forearm strike off the top onto Arn.  Arn blocks the cage shot and gets a break. He makes Dustin follow him into the other ring. The back of Arn's head goes violently into the back of the cage multiple times. Atomic drop by Dustin. Big boot sends Arn in between the rings. ARN'S HEAD IS WEDGED IN THE GAP BETWEEN THE RINGS!!! Arn fights out of it. Rake to the eyes by Arn. Backdrop into the other ring by Dustin. Dustin runs the ropes and NAILS THE DOUBLE RING FLYING CLOTHESLINE!!! Arn gets nailed with an elbow. More fists by Dustin. Dustin stomps Arn down low. Big flying lariat by The Natural. Elbow drop. Snapmare by Dustin. More stomps to the arm now. Arn catches Dustin going for a backdrop and DDTs him for his trouble. Arn unwraps some tape and chokes Dustin with it. Big lariat by Arn now. Dustin fights back out of the corner. Dropkick by Dustin. Arn rolls into the opposite ring. Half crab by Dustin.
Coin toss. Guess what? You know it. The heels win! OH MY GOD! The horror! Bunkhouse Buck is coming in next. He goes right to work on Dustin Rhodes. Boot to the face. Stomps to the head. Arn and Buck get Dustin with a double back elbow. Dustin meets the cage face first. More stomps by Buck. Dustin gets rolled into the other ring. DOUBLE BOSTON CRAB NOW! THEY EACH HAVE A LEG! Wow.
Here comes Saggs!!!! Saggs hits a...... DOUBLE CLOTHESLINE!!!! The fans do a slight pop. Backbreaker to Arn. Buck gets rammed whole body back first into the cage. Arn gets the face shot into the cage. Piledriver to Buck! Dustin goes after Arn. Saggs knees Buck in his Buck. Ten corner punches by Dustin to Arn. Arn is caught in a sleeper hold. Saggs continues to work on Buck. Blatant choke on Buck. Knee drop by Dustin to Arn. Outside the cage, Funk is going nuts, throwing chairs up against the cage! He's at the door. He has a boot in his hand....
AND HERE COMES TERRY FUNK! He's Middle Aged and Crazy!!!! He throws the boot against the ropes and hits himself in the face coming from one ring to another. Lol. He rolls under the bottom rope and begins the attack. Boot to Sagg's head. And now Rhodes gets the boot. Saggs gets double-teamed by Buck and Arn. Dustin flung against the cage. Funk beats up Dustin right in front of Dusty who is powerless to help. (That already makes this match better than 1993. There's at least SOMETHING personal going on here.) Terry gets on the top rope and kicks down at Dustin's head. Dustin punches Terry in the stomach and sends him bouncing off the top rope in an unfortunate position. JERRY SAGGS PILEDRIVES TERRY BETWEEN THE TWO RINGS, AND TERRY JUST SLIDES RIGHT THROUGH THEM TO THE FLOOR! OH MY GOD! Terry makes like a baby xenomorph from Alien and pops up through the opening! Lol.
HERE COMES KNOBBS! All 3 heels meet him to beat him down. But Knobbs sends both Arn and Terry against the cage face first. And there goes Buck as well. The Nastys are destroying the heels, and the crowd is popping! Arn's face gets grated against the cage. Arn again meets the cage. Boot to Terry Funk now by Knobbs. The crowd is going wild. Buck gets raked against the cage by Rhodes. SAGGS JUST SMACKS AND SLOGS FUNK WITH THAT BOOT! Funk is doing his classic "Punch Drunk" selling which is always amazing to watch. Boots continue to reign on Terry Funk by Dustin, and Terry finally goes down after selling his butt off. Parker is scared as hell to get into the WarGames cage.
Parker is the last man for his team. Parker takes his time crawling into the cage. He finally gets in. He punches Dustin, but he hurts his hand. LOL. He starts kicking then. Buck gets some help from Parker. Terry is WHIPPING Dustin with a belt! Now Parker is doing the same to Saggs. Dustin gets the belt from Terry and starts whacking him with it. Now he goes after Buck with the belt. Dustin is going after Parker now with the belt and nails him. Now he's going after Arn! This crowd is popping much louder than last year. BIG DUSTY CHANT! NOW THIS IS MORE I LIKE IT!
HERE WE GO! THE AMERICAN DREAM IS IN WARGAMES ONCE AGAIN! The heels gang up on Dusty, but THEY HAVE A BUFFET OF ELBOWS COURTESY OF THE DREAM! THE CROWD IS MAKING NOISES WITH EVERY ELBOW!!! Funk and Arn meet face to face. Funk meets the cage face first now. Arn does the same. Buck gets some too. And he sees Parker. Meng IS LOSING IT ON THE OUTSIDE! Parker is caught between the faces. NASTYS DOUBLE TEAM PARKER! Dusty grabs a leg and... FIGURE FOUR!!! THE CROWD IS LOSING IT!!!!!! ELBOW DROPS BY THE NASTY BOYS!!!! DUSTIN IS HOLDING OFF THE OTHER HEELS! PARKER GIVES UP!!! THE CROWD POPS!!! THEY GO INTO THE OTHER RING TO CELEBRATE! IN WALKS MENG FROM THE OTHER SIDE SCREAMING AND HEADBUTTING THE DAMN CAMERA TWICE!!!!!

Winners: Dusty and Dustin Rhodes and The Nasty Boys
Match Grade: B+. I really enjoyed this one. It brought back that feeling of the epicness of WarGames with Dustin and Arn pulling off the most work in the match, Terry doing the crazy stuff Terry does, The Nastys being the tough tag team in the match, Parker playing the JJ role, and Dusty just absolutely setting this match on fire when he came in. I dug this. And here's the thing: I don't think anyone bled at all in this one. But I didn't mind one bit. The work was definitely in here, and most importantly, THE CROWD WAS INVESTED! They loved this match from beginning to end and reached nirvana when Dusty got involved. It's not the best WarGames, but this was a LOT better than 1993.

WWE Evolution Predictions + Thoughts on An Underpromoted All-Women PPV

Credit: WWE WWE Evolution Promotional Poster This should feel like a bigger deal. After all, this is the first time ever that an All-Women PPV is taking place under the WWE corporate umbrella. But WWE has done a great job of completely killing the show with an uninspired card, lack of promotion, lack of interest overall, and finding a million different other things to promote to undermine the event. Still, some fans (like myself) want to give the women their due and hope to enjoy this show. Here's a rundown of the card and my predictions for each match: 1) Raw Women's Championship: Ronda Rousey (c) vs. Nikki Bella If this goes longer than 5 minutes, it's definitely too long. As good as Nikki can be in the ring (at times), Rousey should just absolutely massacre her. The only ways to prolong this match in a realistic way would be 1) an injury angle or 2) Twin Magic with Brie interfering. Otherwise, this should be short and awesome. Prediction: Ronda Retains 2)

WWE TLC 2018 Review- Tables and Ladders and Chairs, Oh My!

HERE WE GO!    Pre-Show   1) WWE Cruiserweight Championship   Buddy Murphy (champ) vs. Cedric Alexander   They started this match early. Apparently, they wanted just as many fans in the arena as there usually are in 205 Live matches for this to give it the authentic feel.   The bell rings. A lot of tie-ups and switches to start up the match to a good reaction from the crowd. A Loud 205 Chant. Alexander takes down Murphy to the floor. Really good back and forth action here with both men moving quickly. Alexander catches Murphy with a dropkick for a 2 count. BIG KNEE to the head of Alexander sends him to the floor. Murphy flies off the top rope and hits a Meteora (maybe that’s what they were going for?) for a 2 count. Murphy has the advantage for a few moments, including a power choke on the corner on Alexander. He jumps off it to eat a SUPERKICK to the chest. Crowd seems invested in the match. That’s a good sign. WWE Super Show-Down 2018 Review: Last Time Ever Delivers + Some Other Solid Matches

Another big show in the WWE this year will happen today as WWE comes from Melbourne, Australia in front of 70,000 people. A lot of big matches are happening here. Let's Do This! No Pre-Show today. It's straight to the show. The new WWE opening takes place, and we get a WWE video package putting over the show and the LAST TIME EVER match. It looks like the Raw Announce Team will be calling the show. We go to the arena, and they've already spent more money on fireworks than they have for WWE programming this year. 70,309 in attendance. For once, the entrance way is understated. 1) SmackDown Live Tag Team Championship The Bar vs. The New Day (c) I wonder if Vince/WWE Management is ordering people to run the aisle tonight. Both tag teams were doing that coming to the ring.  Nice back and forth action with Kingston and Cesaro, along with Woods after getting the tag. Woods and Kingston had an awesome sequence of moves to start off. The Bar a minute later catches bot
