UnWrest Focus: WARGAMES (MLW 2003: Funkin' Army vs. Extreme Horsemen)

Welcome to this unplanned but worthwhile edition of UnWrest Focus WarGames Edition. Now, last time I posted one of these, I said I would wait to do another one until NXT's new WarGames match in November. BUT I discovered 2 other WarGames matches on MLW's YouTube page. Apparently, MLW has been able to get the trademark to use WarGames in its matches in the past and did so yet again this year.

So, I'm going to take a look at this match with some color commentary to boot. If you want to watch along, click on this link...

MLW WarGames 2003

Here we go

.
Joey Styles is apparently the voice of MLW here, 2 years after ECW has folded.
Backstage, Steve Corino and Terry Funk meet with MLW officials to flip the coin. Big Shock: Corino (the heel) wins!

WarGames
MLW 2003
Extreme Horsemen (Steve Corino, CW Anderson, Simon Diamond, PJ Walker, and Barry Windham) vs. Funkin' Army (Terry Funk, The Sandman, Dr. Death Steve Williams)**

** Only announced participants

Here's CW Anderson of the Extreme Horsemen. Representing the Funkin' Army, THE SANDMAN! And there's the beer can to the head. (MLW does a terrible time dubbing over the theme songs here. You can still hear the crowd screaming the lyrics to ENTER SANDMAN. I know Metallica wants money. I know. I know. After a while, those costs add up. But still... robbing a great moment here.) The Sandman is already bleeding during his entrance. Well, that is classic Sandman.

CW jumps on Sandman as soon as he gets in the ring. Sandman goes after CW with the Singapore Cane. CW goes on the attack. CW is being hyped as being related to the Anderson family (which is a good joke). Anderson uses the cane on Sandman but gets hit with the White Russian Leg-Sweep. Sandman gets Anderson into the cage. Anderson now busted open. This double ring is really close together. So, no Arn head spot in this match. Crippler Crossface by Sandman now as the countdown keeps going.
Here comes Steve Corino. And he brings in a barbed wire-wrapped fist. He takes it right to Sandman and uses it to the Sandman's open wound. They work on Sandman with the cane and kicks.
Here comes Terry Funk who throws weapons into the cage from the stage. Funk and Corino go at it. Chair to the face of Corino. He smashes Corino's face against the steel cage. He goes into the other ring and helps Sandman attack CW Anderson. Now they take Corino across the ropes between the two rings. Cane shots to the back of Corino. Piledriver by Funk.
Here comes Simon Diamond for The Extreme Horsemen. Diamond and Anderson working on Sandman. Bland couple moments here. Joey puts over how this isn't Diamond's cup of tea as far as matches go.
Dr. Death Steve Williams is in now for the Funkin' Army. Williams comes in and jabs at the Horsemen (I feel like I've said that before). CW and Diamond both meet the cage. Rolling Rock Senton by Sandman.
Here comes PJ Walker for the Extreme Horsemen. (PJ Walker is Justin Credible) Ladder is in the cage now. Walker gets sent into it. A lot of these guys are wearing the Crimson Mask. Terry Funk is doing the Tilt-A-Whirl with the ladder. Apparently, we're expecting a 5-3 attack coming up here. As Funkin' Army has run out of soldiers...
Wait....
IT'S BILL ALFONSO AND SABU!!!!! Sabu is here for the Funkin' Army!!! SABU... IN WARGAMES?! Sabu unloads on all the Horsemen and throws several of them into the cage. Dr. Death throws Corino from one ring into the other.
Here comes Barry Windham for the Extreme Horsemen. Piledriver to Funk. Bill Alfonso says he is going into the match for The Funkin' Army?! Sabu just destroyed Walker by leg dropping him through the table. The Horsemen are going after Fonzie. Joey: "Hell, even I can make Fonzy quit." TERRY FUNK HAS A BRANDING IRON! HE BRANDS CORINO AND BLOWS FIRE INTO HIS FACE!!!! SPINNING TOE HOLD! CORINO GIVES UP!

Winner: The Funkin' Army
Match Grade: C. This definitely brought the violence of WarGames to it, and the match layout even had a classic WarGames feel to it with the faces being overmatched by the heels. But there were a lot of spots here that felt like they were pretty bland. Still, a solid effort all around. I loved Fonzie getting into the match just to "even things up." Lol.

WWE Evolution Predictions + Thoughts on An Underpromoted All-Women PPV

Credit: WWE WWE Evolution Promotional Poster This should feel like a bigger deal. After all, this is the first time ever that an All-Women PPV is taking place under the WWE corporate umbrella. But WWE has done a great job of completely killing the show with an uninspired card, lack of promotion, lack of interest overall, and finding a million different other things to promote to undermine the event. Still, some fans (like myself) want to give the women their due and hope to enjoy this show. Here's a rundown of the card and my predictions for each match: 1) Raw Women's Championship: Ronda Rousey (c) vs. Nikki Bella If this goes longer than 5 minutes, it's definitely too long. As good as Nikki can be in the ring (at times), Rousey should just absolutely massacre her. The only ways to prolong this match in a realistic way would be 1) an injury angle or 2) Twin Magic with Brie interfering. Otherwise, this should be short and awesome. Prediction: Ronda Retains 2)

WWE TLC 2018 Review- Tables and Ladders and Chairs, Oh My!

HERE WE GO!    Pre-Show   1) WWE Cruiserweight Championship   Buddy Murphy (champ) vs. Cedric Alexander   They started this match early. Apparently, they wanted just as many fans in the arena as there usually are in 205 Live matches for this to give it the authentic feel.   The bell rings. A lot of tie-ups and switches to start up the match to a good reaction from the crowd. A Loud 205 Chant. Alexander takes down Murphy to the floor. Really good back and forth action here with both men moving quickly. Alexander catches Murphy with a dropkick for a 2 count. BIG KNEE to the head of Alexander sends him to the floor. Murphy flies off the top rope and hits a Meteora (maybe that’s what they were going for?) for a 2 count. Murphy has the advantage for a few moments, including a power choke on the corner on Alexander. He jumps off it to eat a SUPERKICK to the chest. Crowd seems invested in the match. That’s a good sign. WWE Super Show-Down 2018 Review: Last Time Ever Delivers + Some Other Solid Matches

Another big show in the WWE this year will happen today as WWE comes from Melbourne, Australia in front of 70,000 people. A lot of big matches are happening here. Let's Do This! No Pre-Show today. It's straight to the show. The new WWE opening takes place, and we get a WWE video package putting over the show and the LAST TIME EVER match. It looks like the Raw Announce Team will be calling the show. We go to the arena, and they've already spent more money on fireworks than they have for WWE programming this year. 70,309 in attendance. For once, the entrance way is understated. 1) SmackDown Live Tag Team Championship The Bar vs. The New Day (c) I wonder if Vince/WWE Management is ordering people to run the aisle tonight. Both tag teams were doing that coming to the ring.  Nice back and forth action with Kingston and Cesaro, along with Woods after getting the tag. Woods and Kingston had an awesome sequence of moves to start off. The Bar a minute later catches bot
