UnWrest (NXT, 11/21/18)- NXT TakeOver WarGames II Aftermath

Continuing to catch up on the Thanksgiving Week of wrestling, here are my thoughts and review of NXT's post-TakeOver episode.

NXT Thoughts

- NXT starts off with a great video package highlighting perhaps the best NXT TakeOver of the year in WarGames II.

- Keith Lee starts off the show by taking on Fidel Bravo, an enhancement talent. Lee just absolutely destroys this guy as should be expected. He finishes him off with an AA/JackHammer combination (Imagine John Cena delivering an Attitude Adjustment while coming down for a splash to cover the guy).

- Highlights are shown from the Baszler vs. Sane match. After the match, Baszler and the Horsewomen are interviewed.  Baszler considers herself and her stable unstoppable.

- Matt Riddle vs. Kassius Ohno is shown in its short entirety on the show. After the match, Riddle is interviewed. He now has the quickest victory in NXT history.

- Lars Sullivan is up next. He's wrestling Keito Murray... another enhancement talent. And Sullivan just absolutely destroys the guy with the Freak Accident in about 30 seconds. Vince's new pet project gets the victory. After the match, he gets the mic. He's going to keep destroying people until he gets an NXT Championship match. (Hello. You won't be on the brand that much longer.) Keith Lee runs out to stop Sullivan from destroying the jobber any further.

- More highlights are shown, this time of Gargano vs. Black. After the match, Black refused to say that the feud with Gargano was over. And a run-in with LeRae ends in just a blank stare between the two.

- Following that, another highlight package is shown, this time for Dream vs. Ciampa.

- Keith Lee and Lars Sullivan have to be pulled apart. They will face off next week on NXT. Goodbye Lee's undefeated streak. I don't see Lars losing on his way up to the main roster.

- WarGames Match highlights.

- The main event is Candice LeRae vs. Nikki Cross. Cross gets an early advantage using the ring skirt to attack LeRae. But LaRae responds with a springboard attack to the floor and some high-impact moves in the ring, including a step-up senton and a running snap (ala Mr. Perfect). The Purge by Cross only gets a 2, making LeRae the first to ever kick out of it. LeRae hits a beautiful avalanche German on Cross out of the corner, but THAT only gets a 2. Cross starts laughing at LeRae. LeRae unleashes a ton of knees and strikes to Cross in response. LeRae drives Cross's face into the canvas. Gargano Escape by LeRae is barely escaped by Cross getting to the ropes. Magic Killer using the ropes gets the win for Cross. A very good match here to end the show, and the only real thing worth checking out on the show.

Overall, these post-TakeOver episodes of NXT tend to be very tedious with a ton of highlights putting over just how awesome TakeOver was. Thus, I can't give this a recommendation, EXCEPT for the last match (starting around the 45-47 minute range of the episode). Cross vs. LeRae delivered.

Until next time, take care of yourselves. Spread some awesomeness.

WWE TLC 2018 Review- Tables and Ladders and Chairs, Oh My!

HERE WE GO!    Pre-Show   1) WWE Cruiserweight Championship   Buddy Murphy (champ) vs. Cedric Alexander   They started this match early. Apparently, they wanted just as many fans in the arena as there usually are in 205 Live matches for this to give it the authentic feel.   The bell rings. A lot of tie-ups and switches to start up the match to a good reaction from the crowd. A Loud 205 Chant. Alexander takes down Murphy to the floor. Really good back and forth action here with both men moving quickly. Alexander catches Murphy with a dropkick for a 2 count. BIG KNEE to the head of Alexander sends him to the floor. Murphy flies off the top rope and hits a Meteora (maybe that’s what they were going for?) for a 2 count. Murphy has the advantage for a few moments, including a power choke on the corner on Alexander. He jumps off it to eat a SUPERKICK to the chest. Crowd seems invested in the matc...

UnWrest Focus- Survivor Series: Team Cena vs. Team Authority (Survivor Series 2014)

A feud between those who abuse power and those who try to overcome their abuse. It's a classic storytelling trope that has been used time and time again throughout fiction and history. In 2014, that trope was brought back as The Authority looked to cement its power through their "Chosen One" Seth Rollins and his team. Meanwhile, John Cena and other disgruntled WWE employees sought to end the "Reign of Terror" of The Authority once and for all. Putting their jobs on the line, Team Cena hoped to get an opportunity to send Stephanie and Triple H away. However, fans didn't expect a traitor in the midst of Team Cena or the debut of the Franchise of WCW in a WWE ring. This is the latest edition of UnWrest Focus: Survivor Series, and it's going to be a memorable one at that. Let's do this! UnWrest Focus: Survivor Series: Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels- "The Montreal Screwjob" (Survivor Series 1997)

Welcome to another edition of UnWrest Focus. For this edition, I'm going to be watching random classic moments from Survivor Series past. This can be traditional Survivor Series matches or classic moments from the Survivor Series event in general. And I'm starting this off with perhaps the most famous/infamous moment in the history of the event. It's 1997, and the WWF has its back against the wall. To make matters worse, Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels aren't exactly seeing eye to eye and have had an on-air/off-air heated rivalry that has left both men trying to undermine the other. Around this time, WWF Champion Bret Hart signed a deal to leave WWF to go to WCW... at the request and urging of Vince McMahon who could not afford to pay Bret's contract or match the offer WCW was offering. But here's the problem: Vince wanted Bret to drop the title to Shawn Michaels in Montreal at Survivor Series. After some major back and forth negotiating and drama, the decision ...
