UnWrest (ROH, 11/16/18)- Double Main Events Deliver

This is a pre-Thanksgiving week episode of Ring of Honor that escaped me. So, I'm firing up Honor Club and finishing up the weekly edition of UnWrest by watching this big show. ROH World Tag Team Championships are supposed to be on the line in the main event. Plus we are getting Marty Scurll vs. Shane Helms in their fourth encounter. I'm providing full match coverage for each of these matches.

Let's Do This!

ROH Thoughts

- Dalton Castle starts off the show with The Boys. Dalton goes over the last quarter of the year and his struggles to get back in the ring. His mission is clear: reclaim the ROH World Championship. Here comes Matt Taven to say that HE is the REAL ROH World Champion. So, if he wants to face the champion, Dalton needs to face HIM. The Kingdom beat down on Dalton and The Boys, and they hit a triple Con-Chair-To to Dalton Castle to end the segment. Again, this adds just that much more fuel to the fire between these two heading into Final Battle (which I plan on reviewing.)

1) Hero vs. Villain IV
"No DQs, One Fall to a Finish."
Marty Scurll vs. Shane "Hurricane" Helms

Delirious dresses up like Hurricane to distract Scurll, allowing an unmasked Helms to hit the chokeslam on Scurll and begin the attack. (Helms was unmasked at a live event a month or so ago.) Helms whips Scurll around ringside. We come back from break, and Hurricane is down in the ring while Scurll is throwing UMBRELLAS into the ring! And he starts going on the attack in the ring. He's singing "SINGING IN THE RAIN" while whipping Helms with the umbrella. Helms gets Scurll down and reclaims the mask. And now, the superhero is back at full strength. Lol. Helms goes on the offense and brings in some steel chairs. Helms and Scurll are on the corner with four chairs lined up in a bed of pain below them.  SCURLL GETS TOSSED ONTO THE CHAIRS! Nightmare on Helms Street only gets a 2.
We come back from a second commercial break, and Scurll has tables lined up on the floor while Helms is recovering on the apron. They start dueling on the apron. SCURLL HITS A DEATH VALLEY DRIVER ON HELMS OFF THE APRON THROUGH THE TABLE ON THE FLOOR! Helms kicks out at 2 in the ring. Scurll goes back under the ring and grabs a bag. OH MY GOD! IT'S THUMBTACKS!!! Both men tease dives into the thumbtacks. Helms' fingers get snapped, but SCURLL GETS CHOKESLAMMED ONTO THE THUMBTACKS!!!! Scurll kicks out at 2.5! Shining Wizard is countered with a low blow by Scurll. Scurll grabs a handful of thumbtacks, STICKS THEM IN HELMS' MOUTH, AND SUPERKICKS HIM WITH THE THUMBTACKS IN THE MOUTH! OH MY GOD! GRADUATION ON THE THUMBTACKS! 1-2-3.

Winner: Marty Scurll
Match Grade: B+. That was a great blowoff for this feud. Hardcore, bloody, well-paced action here between these two. Apparently, there's an unedited full version of this match on Honor Club. I may have to rewatch this later and give a review of the full match. Very good stuff.

2) ROH World Tag Team Championships
The Briscoes (c) vs. The Young Bucks vs. SCU (Kazarian and Scorpio Sky)

Some great high-flying action between Sky and Matt Jackson to start off the match. Sky dives out onto The Briscoes. Kaz hits the slingshot hurricanrana to the floor to one of the Briscoes on the floor. Jay Briscoe gets attacked by SCU and The Young Bucks in the ring in a 4 on 1 attack sequence. Kaz and Sky team up on Mark Briscoe with Kaz being the legal man. Blind tag by Jay Briscoe proves fruitful as he DRILLS Kaz with a running clothesline. Jay distracts the referee while Mark attacks Kaz on the floor. The Briscoes now have the advantages as they attack Kaz using frequent tags to keep both men involved in the match. Kaz nails the Backstabber on Mark, but Jay stops Kaz from tagging in Sky.
We come back from break. Kaz nails a German suplex into the corner on Mark. Kaz tags in Matt Jackson. Double clothesline to The Briscoes. Tornado Stunner to Mark on the floor. Sharpshooter on Jay in the ring. Sky breaks up the hold. Pop-Up Spear by The Bucks on Sky. More classic tandem offense by The Bucks. Kaz is tagged in and almost pins Matt Jackson. Dropkick Powerbomb connects, but the pin is broken up by Nick Jackson. Slingshot Cutter by Kaz and Sky to Matt Jackson and Mark Briscoe. SUPERKICKS break it up from Jay and Nick. Superkick by Nick to Jay Briscoe. Tag to Nick Jackson, and The Best Hot Tag in Wrestling strikes again. The referee gets rocked by accident from a Nick Jackson kick. Briscoes start using steel chairs.
Jay Driller to Kaz. 1-2-MATT JACKSON BREAKS IT UP! The ref is still woozy as The Briscoes set up another chair. Matt Jackson fights off The Briscoes. SPEAR to Mark Briscoe! SIDEWALK SLAM ONTO THE CHAIR BY JAY BRISCOE TO MATT JACKSON! The Briscoes continue to work over Kaz. Doomsday Device is stopped by Nick Jackson. While he and Mark are fighting on the corner, Sky throws a title to Kaz. He nails Jay with it. Jay is out on his feet, and Mark dives into a POWERSLAM OFF OF JAY'S SHOULDERS BY KAZ! 1-2-KICKOUT! Kaz and Mark trade punches in the ring. Kaz ducks out of a chair shot, and Jay hits Mark by accident. ROCK BOTTOM INTO A BACKBREAKER BY SCU! 1-2-3!!!! NEW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS!

Winners: SCU (Sky and Kaz) (NEW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS!)
Match Grade: B. This never seemed to get to that upper level that these three teams are capable of, but this was a fun main event match and lived up to that moniker. I'm interested to see how this progresses in the coming month with the contract situations of Kaz and Daniels and Daniels' rumored consideration of retirement.

Overall, this was an excellent episode of ROH TV. A big angle was set up on the beginning of the show. You had a very good hardcore match between Helms and Scurll. And you had a big title change to finish off the show. Of the TV shows this week, this was probably the best single hour of wrestling you could watch between 11/16-11/22.

Until next time, take care of yourselves. Spread some awesomeness.

WWE Evolution Predictions + Thoughts on An Underpromoted All-Women PPV

Credit: WWE WWE Evolution Promotional Poster This should feel like a bigger deal. After all, this is the first time ever that an All-Women PPV is taking place under the WWE corporate umbrella. But WWE has done a great job of completely killing the show with an uninspired card, lack of promotion, lack of interest overall, and finding a million different other things to promote to undermine the event. Still, some fans (like myself) want to give the women their due and hope to enjoy this show. Here's a rundown of the card and my predictions for each match: 1) Raw Women's Championship: Ronda Rousey (c) vs. Nikki Bella If this goes longer than 5 minutes, it's definitely too long. As good as Nikki can be in the ring (at times), Rousey should just absolutely massacre her. The only ways to prolong this match in a realistic way would be 1) an injury angle or 2) Twin Magic with Brie interfering. Otherwise, this should be short and awesome. Prediction: Ronda Retains 2)...

WWE TLC 2018 Review- Tables and Ladders and Chairs, Oh My!

HERE WE GO!    Pre-Show   1) WWE Cruiserweight Championship   Buddy Murphy (champ) vs. Cedric Alexander   They started this match early. Apparently, they wanted just as many fans in the arena as there usually are in 205 Live matches for this to give it the authentic feel.   The bell rings. A lot of tie-ups and switches to start up the match to a good reaction from the crowd. A Loud 205 Chant. Alexander takes down Murphy to the floor. Really good back and forth action here with both men moving quickly. Alexander catches Murphy with a dropkick for a 2 count. BIG KNEE to the head of Alexander sends him to the floor. Murphy flies off the top rope and hits a Meteora (maybe that’s what they were going for?) for a 2 count. Murphy has the advantage for a few moments, including a power choke on the corner on Alexander. He jumps off it to eat a SUPERKICK to the chest. Crowd seems invested in the matc...

WWE Super Show-Down 2018 Review: Last Time Ever Delivers + Some Other Solid Matches

Another big show in the WWE this year will happen today as WWE comes from Melbourne, Australia in front of 70,000 people. A lot of big matches are happening here. Let's Do This! No Pre-Show today. It's straight to the show. The new WWE opening takes place, and we get a WWE video package putting over the show and the LAST TIME EVER match. It looks like the Raw Announce Team will be calling the show. We go to the arena, and they've already spent more money on fireworks than they have for WWE programming this year. 70,309 in attendance. For once, the entrance way is understated. 1) SmackDown Live Tag Team Championship The Bar vs. The New Day (c) I wonder if Vince/WWE Management is ordering people to run the aisle tonight. Both tag teams were doing that coming to the ring.  Nice back and forth action with Kingston and Cesaro, along with Woods after getting the tag. Woods and Kingston had an awesome sequence of moves to start off. The Bar a minute later catches bot...
